Do you cry at weddings?

In our culture the bride and the bride's family usually cry as she leaves the venue with her new husband. We had a few English friends at our wedding and they were really puzzled by this.

Are brides crying at weddings a normal custom in your family? If so, when is it most common? Vows? Leaving the venue? Arriving?

Yesterday only I was in the wedding of my cousin and everyone was crying when she was leaving. She cried so much that she fainted 3 times. I don't see anything to cry, also it was her decision to marry so I don't get exactly why everyone cried so dramatically. It was only me who didn't cry. And they said that I don't love my cousin genuinely that's why I didn't cry.

I think for these cultures, the daughter has already left the house and pratically, the family after college. They cannot wait to leave the hold of their parents.

Also, in our culture (traditionally), it is a big concern that "what if this was not a good decision? How will he (and they) treat our daughter?". Over here, "So what? She can leave him when she wants, AND wipe his assets off".

I went to only one wedding and one of the people were Muslim so I barely understood what was going on, all I know is I got drunk and there was a lot of catchy music I didn't understand at all.

i've never seen anyone cry at a wedding. and if they did, i don't see the point of crying? why cry? because they may divorce later on? probably. i find weddings boring, so maybe i'd cry from boredom?

Nope. There may be tears of joy during the ceremony but I haven’t seen full on crying

In our culture, the girls live at home until they get married. So naturally the family is more close knit and that's why it's more sentimental when the bride is being given away to another person.
