My boyfriend doesn’t want to get married, what do I do?

My boyfriend and I have been dating for 5 years and we just bought a house together. Marriage and a wedding had been something I have looked forward too since I was little and i have been decorating my wedding mood board for YEARS i’ve also wanted a marriage and a wedding and my boyfriend is the person I want that with. However he just told me a few years ago that he doesn’t ever want to get married. It has genuinely crushed me, especially because when we first started dating he told me he was excited for the day we could get married… did his mind set on marriage change or does he just not want to marry me? he also jokes all the time acting like he’s going to propose or makes a joke like if you go get this i’ll marry you right now. I know i’m fairly young but everyone else my age (that i know) is either married or has kids and they have been with their partners for way less of a time. I don’t want to leave my boyfriend and I just keep hoping one day maybe he will propose. I’m just unsure what to do. Do i keep bringing marriage up or do i just never mention it again and hope he changes his mind. I’ve already tried to let him know the reasons why i want to be married. It probably also doesn’t help that his parents aren’t married (they aren’t divorced or anything just never felt the need to get married.) so i think he just doesn’t see a point in it but I do and it’s something i’ve always wanted😭

I guess I’m a bit confused… he told you already he doesn’t want to get married. He told you years ago. Yet you still stayed with him, even bought a house with him? Why would you do that? You’ve put yourself in a position that could’ve been totally prevented but I guess that ‘maybe he’ll change his mind’ mentality ruled over logical thought. Marriage is like pregnancy/parenthood, just one of those things that you can’t compromise on. He either wants it or he doesn’t and if he doesn’t you have to accept his choice and either stay in silence or move on.

Marriage is a huge risk for men these days and most are smart to avoid it. You could try to compromise with him by offering to sign a prenup or do a covenant marriage where you do the ceremony without the paperwork.

Sounds like he changed his view on marriage which means u are pretty much shit out if luck if u force him to marry u to stay with u he will end up resenting u for it

uh my parents are divorced and that never stopped me from wanting to get married. that has nothing to do with it. it has to do with the fact that you guys are too young, his brain is immature.
