I don’t have any reason to want a pre-nuptial agreement right now. If my partner was in a certain situation I wouldn’t mind it.

Here is the thing. The majority of the time pre-nuptial agreements are bad, and start the marriage off with a lack of trust. So a lot of times they are unnecessary and should be avoided. However, in extreme circumstances, they are a good thing. Not because you don’t trust your partner, but because of the other family dynamics. If you are EXTREMELY wealthy before the marriage, it’s not uncommon to have an old friend or crazy uncle come out and start acting weird about your partners finances. Again, it’s not that you don’t trust your partner, it’s that a sudden change of wealth and financial status can change relationships with those around you. So keeping that at a distance, is important. And that’s one of the things a pre-nuptial agreement does. Not perfect, but it’s a good idea in those rare circumstances.

I have been involved in drafting and reviewing prenuptial agreements. I cannot remember an instance where the prenuptial was not suggested by one set of parents, and because of that, it never caused any visible tension between the prospective bride and groom.

if they wanted one, yes... no problem

money would not get in the way of my happiness

and while yes, love and trust are a must... a pre-nuptial agreement is about the law and in some cases, it is a need, for example... marrying into stupidly great amounts of wealth, it is best to make things "easier" and have an "ease of mind" for everyone involved

I would sign one. I came from nothing so I'm not going to take someone else money or belongings

In extreme cases it could be OK. I think though that in some states, each person gets to keep the assets they had when they were married, so that eliminates a lot of the necessity.

    Sure, I'd sign one.

    What type of person wouldn't?

If a marriage did split... them not wanting to sign is proof that they will want and expect to still go after your finances even after the divorce.

I would insist on one. I would also sign one if my partner felt it was necessary.
