If you haven't, you may wish to be careful. Here in the US, there are 8 states where De facto or Common law is allowed. Basically what it means is if you have your girlfriend move in with you. Depending how long she lives with you, Some states is 3 months, Others are multiples of years, the state considers you married. Some countries are the same. And in some of them, living together is not even a requirement. In those situations the woman can file for divorce and take half of your assets.. Without being married. Its evil, its bullshit.

I have heard about it, but luckily, I'm not in danger. Not only do I live in a country with slightly more sane legislation, but I'm also not physically attractive, so if any woman gets interested in me, it's either going to be a trap (if She's being suspiciously kind) or a genuine interest (if She's being serious and solemn).

In Texas if you jokingly refer to your girlfriend as your "wife" that's enough to be considered married. In Texas there is no minimum time together.

Yeah, but it depends on where You live. In the states where staying together for a certain time gets You married by default, what the Asker mentioned is a serious threat, but You are not confined to these states. Once You're in a state with sane legislation, just go for the true, traditional, purely Catholic marriage and it's going to be fine.
