How disappointing would it be if a Sunday afternoon wedding didn’t have alcohol served?

I’m planning my wedding in the early afternoon on a Sunday next fall as my fiancé and I want to be a little different and have something with a more laid back feel and a shorter reception. Neither of us drink alcohol very much, but I also want to be a good hostess.

Would alcohol be expected at this kind of wedding, or would it likely be a disappointment if we didn’t serve it?

If you don't want alcohol, it's your call. Your wedding, your rules.

Just update us with the stories when various guests complain and whine about not being able to drink themselves into a stupor for some reason.

umm... yes you should have alcohol for your guests (not for you) and it should be open bar. it's a major ordeal for people to attend weddings and they spend a good amount of money getting there and on gifts. I'm not a big drinker but i would like to have one or two drinks at a wedding, and many people want to drink much more. The catering company will help you figure out what the limits should be so people don't get disgustingly drunk.

It’s probably always a disappointment if there’s no alcohol at a wedding even if you don’t drink, there’s probably quite a few guests that will want at least one drink of alcohol

I would be totally cool with it, I don't need alcohol at all. But I bet the habitual drinkers (many of which are simply alcoholics) will complain about it. :-)

Alcohol is always part of a good reception. But don't let it stop you from deciding not to. My wedding was dry, due to finances and the fact it was at a public park.

They can go fk themselves if they get upset. Weddings cost a lot & they're not the ones who have to decide on finances. They're not entitled to it. Do what you want.
