My parents celebrated 29 year anniversary yesterday.
I thought your parents were separated?
My parents had 5 children , She was 20 , he was 30 years old when they married , I was the youngest , she had me at 37 , she died in 1998 , Dad died in 1975 .
Technically they were married will Tom died , although a car accident ( the results of , cut short his life , had the accident when I was 7 , died with I was 14 ) ..
So from 1944 to 1975 = 31 years technically , but not really , because Tom was left destroyed by this accident = 31 - 7 = 24 really. If you are not together being married on paper means little.

I am sorry for your loss…
As for my parents , They are not separated. They live in separate places, since 2 years ago when my grandpa passed away and my grandma needed our care, my mom moved in with my grandma. my dad visits my mom and stays with her at least 3 days a week. They are in a long distance relationship of a sort.
My dad also helps mom take care of grandma. They spend their holidays together.

They'll be happily married for 36 years on August. Sure they may have had their ups and downs, but they're both inseparable, and whenever I myself am feeling down about my own love life, I just look at them and I'm given this sense of hope that if my parents were able to find each other, there must be someone out there for me too.
Also by the way, I'm writing this early in the morning while these two are in their bedroom next to me, cuddled together in their shared massive quilt, snoring away in sync with each other. That right there is the definition of true love if I've ever seen one ❤️20 Reply
+1 yWhen you are a kid you sometimes take it for granted that your parents will be together forever. You don't even know what divorce is. I am fortunate to still have my parents, and they are still married after 32 years.

@Hawkes_Lady That's a long time to never talk to your mom. At least she didn't abort you so that was one good thing about her if nothing else. Ever try and look up your dad?
- +1 y
@Orangekiss Tried once, but he wouldn't talk to me. I talked to his then-wife and she said that she'd talk to him and try to get him to talk to me. When I tried to call her again the number had been changed.
- +1 y
Wow, guess after all the years you were a liability to them. They probably thought you were out to get some money.
- +1 y
@Orangekiss couldn't possibly about money. Her dad wasn't interested to own her as daughter I guess. And her step mom may changed her mind of reuniting them after knowing her dad wasn't interested to own her as his daughter. Either way her dad doesn't deserve to have her as his daughter and his daughter doesn't deserve the shit that his father puts her through and she deserves much more better life than what her biological father could give her. It will be better if she gets back with her mom and lead a fulfilling life with the love of her mother. She shouldn't abandon her mom. Solving issues with her mom could help her. She should take care of her mom and forget her cruel dad

+1 yI think I've been married about 20 years... my Mom though... HA!
I don't think any man could put up with her bullshit. She spent her life bouncing from guy to guy and starting shit like a pissed off entitled teenage girl all the way into her 50's.
My Dad married another woman right after making me with my mom and getting chased off by my mom, and he was married to that woman until his death.
My Mom is just a disaster. Everybody hates her or fakes it just so she doesn't go to war with us. My sisters and I all agree though in private... our mom is a piece of fucking shit.

+1 yMy mom died shortly after their 50th anniversary. I think it was only a couple of months after. Out of all the friends I grew up with, none of their parents ever got divorced. Their marriages all lasted 50-65 years until one of them died.
Divorce wasn't common back then. I was 11-12 years old before I met anyone with divorced parents. It seemed really sad to me.

Most of the nice things in life happen unintentionally, if everyone was born intentionally, the population would barely surpass 2 billion. My brother was unintentional too but I am so grateful he was born.
Grats to your parents.
My mother filed for divorce last year after being together for around 40 years or so. My mother could no longer tolerate his verbal abuse and financial woes, it got bad because they're in their 70s now and they need to be financially wiser with whatever funds they have.

+1 yFrom June 1957 until Mother passed away July 2023, just a bit over 66 years. From February 2015 forward Mom had this terrible stroke which incapacitated her totally, but Dad stuck it out. I appreciated the photo from "The Notebook". Just about everyone misses the heart of that story, namely, the characters as old people. I am now visiting the old man for Christmas.
00 Reply37 years, and they've been together since high-school
20 Replynearly 40 years. It's very rare for Indians to get divorced. There's not much left in their marriage, basically they are fulfilling their duties. My father gets his pension and my mother is unwell now but does a little around the house. They have a maid and cook.

Anonymous(36-45)+1 y40 years. But honestly they probably shouldn’t be married. Their relationship is very one sided and unhappy. My dad feels trapped and he often beat me and my siblings because it made him feel validated to see us suffering. Constant put downs and bullying. My mom is a sadist and enjoys the torturing because it makes her feel powerful
I’ve been estranged from them for a year
