The mistress gets called a homewrecker and the Spanish version for that is ''La Roba Maridos'' literally translated as ''The husband thief''.
Even on a Spanish soap opera that was set many years ago, only the woman would get harassed by the people (of both genders; the women themselves excusing and tolerating that double standard) or at times the wife orchestrated an angry mob against her. Meanwhile nothing happened to the man. He was safe, treated as if he was some saint. Then the wife remains with the unfaithful man just for appearances. In reality he was fully guilty of destroying a marriage and a family. Nobody stole her husband. He went on his own and cheated because he wanted too. If anything he, himself (the cheater) wrecked his home, his family.
Meanwhile if the wife was unfaithful, she's thrown out. The other man (esp if he knew she was married) either doesn't get blamed much or they're both equally blamed. But even if the husband blames the other man too and beats him in a fight, the wife is still kicked out and he files for divorce. There is no angry mob against him nor ''staying married for appearances'' BS. The unfaithful wife still gets signaled out by the people.
It's only been recently that cheaters have been equally signaled out but in the past, there was a different treatment. Though some women still tend to place the blame on the other woman and not the unfaithful man. Why?
