Girls, what does getting married mean to you?

For me, marriage means stability and wanting to procreate in a stable environment. It means honoring the vows. It's an inseparable union between a man and a woman

You are responsible for not only yourself but someone else too. Not just physically but emotionally. It means holding up your end of the deal and hoping you don't hurt them, as life often manipulates you against each other.
It means seeing through that. Breaking down those walls and being far stronger for noticing and accomplishing. It means being there through the great stuff and even harder the bad. When you see each other at your worst and remind them of their best. Telling them there is always a way you just have to find it, and you aren't alone in the journey. Getting to know a person so well you can communicate volumes with simple looks. Having a persons complete trust is scary as hell and also stronger than forged steel, and again fragile. Marriage is balance and work. It takes effort and kindness as well as strength. It's best friends, and lovers and stability. So long as there is balance. Give and take. Not an easy thing but with the right person, priceless.

It means forever, It's a partnership that you commit to for the rest of your life. It means having a family even if is just the two of you. It means creating a safe space to raise children and love them with all you have.

I had the same mindset at 27, this big beautiful dream. A coworker that I worked with approached me and said "don't get married. It will ruin your life". Of course I didn't listen. I believed in true love and only getting married once, staying loyal, and looking after my husband. After getting married I realized it's just imprisonment and mostly sadness.

I definitely married the wrong person. The only thing good that came out of that was my daughter. I'm not against marriage. Mistakes help you grow and learn. I would probably try marriage again, but next time I'll be extremely careful. Definitely first live together for a year before tying the knot.

To me it means choosing someone who has also chosen to be with you because they are in love with the real you, flaws and all. It means committing to loving one another in the highs and lows of life, when things get hard, when you think you can't anymore, but you find a way back to one another. It means always wanting to do right by them and to be better for yourself and them and the life you have together for as long as you both shall live.
