I’m not from the US. But I grew up with gay family members and accepting family. No one was shunned or disinherited so to me it’s normal. Someone else’s relationship has absolutely no bearing on my life so why should I care if it’s not considered traditional.

I have nothing against gay people. But I find the concept of gay marriage to be what I can only call instinctively disgusting. I would not attend a gay marriage. I have a gay aunt who's one of the sweetest people I know, but I wouldn't attend a wedding of hers. It would feel strange.
I think if they want to have a symbolic celebration of their love for each other, then go for it. People deserve happiness. Just do it quietly.
It's the same thing with the alphabet brigade. They're too in my face with all their propaganda. I don't care what you do in your life as long as it doesn't affect mine. But when you start pushing your values on me, forcing me live by them, that's when I have a problem.
I believe in live and let live, but that only works when both parties are doing it. If I am forced to live by your standards, addressing you by whatever terms you've made up, having my kids forced to learn about sexuality and all that nonsense before they've even hit puberty, seeing the national flag be replaced by a rainbow flag, that's not letting me live. This is why I prefer conservative gay people. They're quiet about it. Not flamboyant and in your face about it.
It's also not what nature intended to be considered normal. It's a literal genetic mishap. It should not be encouraged. What's normal is a man and a woman because you can create life and reproduce like that. But if you put a bunch of gay people on an island, they're not making it past a single generation (obviously without the help of the opposite sex).
I have always believed that marriage is between a man and a woman. I have no problem with same-sex couples having a relationship, just don't call it marriage.

I am 100% heterosexual.
In my youth, I was quite prejudiced toward homosexuals, especially gay guys. But, by my 50s, I had learned a lot about the world and history. And I had encountered a lot of gay people. Granted, I find the flamboyant behavior of some disgusting, but some are totally cool.
I came to realized that some people are gay and there is nothing they can do about it. I mean, I didn't make a conscious choice to only be attracted to women. I decided consenting adults should be able to have sex with or love whomever they want.
I wound up campaigning and voting for gay marriage because I saw it as a civil rights issue. Gays deserved the same rights as anyone else. And the right to marry was important because marriage has legal advantages.
Tax advantages:
Couples can file taxes jointly and often qualify for tax breaks, deductions, and credits.
Insurance benefits:
Premiums for health, home, and auto insurance can be cheaper for married couples.
Easier access to assets:
Marriage provides access to an unlimited transfer of assets between spouses, which is tax-free.

Surviving spouses can inherit an estate tax-free and have smoother inheritance processes.
Medical and legal rights:
Spouses have visitation rights and automatically gain the right to make medical decisions and have a voice in medical emergencies.
Retirement and Social Security:
Marriage can grant access to your spouse's Social Security, pension, and other retirement benefits.
So my opinion on gay marriage hasn't changed since its legalization. I have no problem with sane LGB.
But I have to say that the rise of militant LGBTQ+ has alienated me. I am opposed to medical transitioning. It should be illegal. I am opposed to treating trans-women as actual women. I am opposed to teaching LGBTQ to school children. Fuck drag queen story hour. I don't care about transgenders' feelings. I am ambivalent toward preferred pronouns, rainbow flags and all the other bullshit.
So, in a way, the LGBTQI+ movement has been alienating. I won't associate or be friends with supporters. But I know LGB people who are also opposed to that bullshit and feel that the backlash has created hostility and jeopardized the progress toward acceptance that LGBs had made.
Kind of two distinct issues for me.
I don't give a fuck about the gays... less competition for women, and women that would waste my time in a fuck-less relationshit not wasting my time; A win-win for me. Women-women relationship stats has sort of proven who starts the shit and does the bulk of the abuse... women.
Marriage... I view marriage as an outdated institution. The tax-breaks should be for the parents of kids that support the kids. Marriage no longer proves who the parents are because women cheat so much... they now hold the record for that, they cheat more than men. It was the opposite when I was a kid and for the purposes of deciding on who the parents were, assuming only men cheat... that worked. Times have changed... time to move onto DNA testing. It will show who's the parent and disable these women committing paternity fraud on men just for the child support.
For the religious... go ahead and have your little ceremony, but there is no need to get the state involved in that. Separation of church and state.
Those are my opinions. No fault divorce has absolved women of their marital duties already and DNA can prove who Dad is. Military... hospitals... benefits and so on... We should all just be allowed to pick a person instead of making it a legally binding institution.

I'm not American nor I live in the US in fact I'm from somewhere where being gay is unacceptable and considered a crime and gay marriage doesn't exist at all. I used to be friends with lost of gay people and my best friend is a gay man married to another gay man but I must say that my opinion on gay marriage completely changed over the past two years and I don't even know exactly why. All this LGBTQ+ narrative has been pushed and forced on us unwillingly I mean if you're gay, trans or XYZ do whatever you want but be mindful and don't make your whole personality about your sexual orientation and preferences otherwise it makes it seem like you just want attention and annoy others just because you want to cause a reaction or p*ss other people off. When my friends told me they were getting married I was very happy and excited from them but after a few months I started wondering why? The way I see heterosexual marriage is a Man and a Woman who both love each other and decide to officiate their relationship in order to create this safe environment to raise kids and create a family. My friends DO NOT want to have kids so I still have this big WHY in the back of my head, but I guess is none of my business.
not really. i think marriage is an institution that was initially invented to protect women from being exploited and abused or let's say "helpless" after being left by a man and having decided not to further their career while caring their offspring so to be thrown into the labour market with a serious disadvantage left to their own devices to survive. on top of that, marriage was an institution additionally financially relieve people so they were more likely to reproduce.
so really it was an institution invented to facilitate the production of offspring for society. i think that allowing homosexuals to be a part of that institution shows a gross missunderstanding of what that institution really is. you can promise each other to be with one another forever. you can love each other. the government doesn't need to be a part of that. and if you want to regulate ownership in case of separation, there's cohabitation agreements that can regulate that.
so really to this day i think the introduction of gay marriages completely missed the point of marriages.
so i don't consider it to be a "bad thing". just a pointless dumb thing that doesn't make much sense.
Homosexual relationships have existed for centuries, Hieroglyphs have shown them, Roman writings describe them. People did not assign evil to them until Catholicism was created and Christians started believing that God expected perfection from them. Truth is He accepts us in our short comings. He created us imperfect, perfectly capable of stumbling. He is encouraged by our victories but knows that they aren't constant. That is why we have a Savior. A spiritual flotation devise.

I don't think that the government should recognize ANY marriage. It's none of their business. Every person should be treated as an individual in the eyes of the government.
Leave the "marriage" thing to the religious organizations or to the people involved. If they want to call themselves "married" it's no one's business but theirs. Get the government and the "licenses" out of it. Let people call their relationship anything they want to call it. That's their right.

No, not really. I didn't care before and I don't really care now. I've never believed gov't should have a say in marriage. That's God's territory. And he wrote a book that says what he thinks of it, it's not a debate, it'll never be a debate, no matter how much some may want it to be. Having said this, if two gay people can find a member of the clergy to marry them then who am I to oppose it. Again, this is God's territory. If he wants it stopped, let him stop it. My ONLY job is to love my fellow man.
I don't have an opinion, but the legal status is separate from the spiritual reality. Marriage is a karmic union of two souls. The legal framework might change, but it doesn't create or dissolve the spiritual bond between two people. It cannot create a shared life or a shared destiny where one isn't already present. It's a social structure, not a spiritual one.
I don't want to say I don't care as I'm not that callous but I don't see how marriage between same sex couples affects me if I were to marry a woman. When people cite religious dogma that marriage is about having children, there is no legal mandate to have children if a man and woman marry, not to mention the fact that voluntary childlessness is increasingly common.

Gay marriage is a bad thing. That said, I'm not a believer in the government making laws concerning religion and I hold the belief that marriage is a religious institution. Government should be out of marriage all together. Religious institutions should manage their own marriages.
A marriage is a legal agreement and not religious. Those claiming it's their superstitious delusion that OWNS marriage are full of it.
It ought to be a 5 year recurring agreement that both parties renew their commitment legally.

If anything, the definition of marriage needs to be expanded to include so-called polygamy and like the Dutch I think there should be trial marriage where the certificate expires after two or three years unless you we up and make it permanent
I've always thought that marriages should be done under normal contract law, allowing for more tailored terms and conditions for the partners. The fact that one can cheat, violating the terms, and then terminate it and still get alimony seems pretty stupid to me.
I have always been against it for moral reasons, but as time went on I turned against normal marriage too because it is abusive to men and women like it that way so they never want the laws changed that harm men.

I was very feminist and I thought my father was very sexist and domineering of my mother but now older I realise certain things that I thought were sexist and old outdated customs actually make sense to me. Like how a father gives away his daughter at her wedding, he's not giving her away like property but handing over his responsibilities as her father and all that entails to her husband as well as giving his blessing to the wedding. I thought my mother a fool and doormat for becoming a stay at home mother and not pursuing her education and career as much as she could but having worked and gotten an education I wouldn't want it any other way than staying at home with my kids and looking after my husband.

It seems like it does affect you if you're saying keep it away from the kids. I've only been to one gay wedding and there were kids there who did not have gay parents themselves. They sat at the wedding like everyone else and now years later, as teens, they are still straight and aren't traumatized by the experience. I'm not sure why one would need to "keep it away from the kids."

What are you even talking about? What weddings are you attending??? The one gay wedding I went to had two people who were fully clothed that walked down the aisle and said "I do." That was it. I don't know what weddings you go to where people are talking about or having sex.
