What do you think about how disturbingly successful the left has been in reframing gay marriage as a mainstream position?

It was not that long ago that supporting gay marriage was widely considered a pretty extreme leftist position. Now we’re in a spot Where even a decent minority of Republicans are supporting this. I’m not going to change my mind and back something that I feel is wrong. Marriage is between a man and a woman. And you’re not going to change my mind otherwise with a bunch of spin doctor political BS.

Whether you believe it’s right or wrong is irrelevant. The prohibition on same sex marriage was always a clear violation of the equal protection clause. It was never a matter of if it would be legalized, but when. It took the court decades to overcome its own bigotry to do what was constitutional. Government is not guided by the Bible, it’s guided by the constitution. If you’re going to have laws governing marriage, they must apply equally to people. How you feel personally is irrelevant to everyone but you.

Of course it will. Equality is guaranteed by the constitution. You’re free to have your own religious beliefs but you aren’t free to force them on other people.

They didn’t foresee gay marriage, so it was never addressed directly but they had the wisdom to include an equal protection clause that requires all laws to be applied equally to the people to cover any future discriminatory practices. The founders personal opinions on the morality of same sex marriage is as irrelevant as yours is. They crafted a document that protects it.

Same sex marriage is clearly protected. Abortion is a little murkier. Different parts of the constitution imply a right to privacy. Abortion (or medical privacy in general) isn’t directly mentioned. The problem with overturning Roe is it was one of the landmark cases the right to privacy was built on. Now other privacy rights could fall that are based on the same implied right. Be careful what you wish for when you look to use government to force morality on people.

They haven't. It's not a matter of reframing, but of people genuinely changing their minds as old bigotries fall by the wayside. Sixty years ago, this question would've been about interracial marriage, and you'd've been decrying it as miscegenation, but it'd be a legitimate marriage, same as the ones between two people of the same sex.
