Now People prefer marrying childhood friends because of a deep, pre-existing foundation of trust, understanding, and shared history, mostly from school time leading to greater comfort, emotional security, and effortless connection, as they already know each other's core selves, values, and quirks, creating a sturdy "super-friend" bond that withstands life's challenges better than new relationships. This familiarity means less awkwardness, automatic support, and a sense of home, even as life changes. They know each other's pasts, insecurities, and strengths. Childhood friends offer a safe space, a sense of home, and unwavering emotional support. Conversations flow easily, inside jokes abound, and they often predict each other's needs without words. They are already familiar with each other's families, easing introductions and integration.

I personally don't know any couples that were childhood friends from a young age. I know more than a few high school sweethearts and are now married with kids. I think the high school sweetheart trope may be more common in small towns than anywhere else.
