Valentines day: The point of view from a female in a long term relationship

A females view on Valentine's day has always been stereotyped into two categories; the first and most popular being single women hate Valentine's day and want to cry into a pillow, the second being that woman in relationships love Valentine's day and that they will spend it being lavished with gifts and affection.

Well I disagree, how can anyone's take on anything be categorised, why should I like Valentine's day because I have a man and why should my single friends feel inferior on one day a year because they don't have someone to share that day with! Where have people developed this belife that a woman bases her self worth on having a man? My boyfriend and I don't celebrate Valentine's and this was my choice, I love my boyfriend and I don't think giving him cheap trinkets shows this anymore than watching netflix together every Saturday evening.

Young girls have been given this impression that being in a relationship is everything they could want; seeing young girls cry because they haven't received a card off a boy rather than because there grades are low worries me. My mother taught me from a young age that although love is wonderful and can be inspiring, it is not all you are worth! That's myTake on Valentine's day!
