I find this border-line racist. Chinese New year is a sacred and ancient tradition of the Chinese people and it's linked deeply to their beliefs and consists of rituals sacred to their people, it's not a custom to simply be adopted by Western Culture because the idea of a parade and shiny, pretty things and some nice food seems like a fun, alternative way to spend New Year. It should be respected, and I think it's extremely ignorant to suggest that people should decide on a whim, to celebrate New Years "Chinese Style" because it seems like a cool idea.
