People who are a serious threat to the government should be able to be held in prison without being charged. why?

Disagree. First, who decides what an actual threat to the government is? If you feel the government itself should decide, then that's just the same as giving a football coach the power to be the referee as well which will be questionable.

Second, who's to stop someone getting imprisoned simply because they threaten a politicians CAREER but poses no real threat? Giving this kind of power would create a conditioning and selection within society at it's worst.

Third, what else would it lead to? If you as a citizen gives up this kind of power to a governing body, what else will they take from you or feel comfortable taking from you? Giving the government more power is not only a sheepish and scared way to try and solve a problem, but it won't give a solution any faster (or of any better quality).

the problem is deciding who is a serious threat to the government, in communist china for example, if you make fun of the government like they do on the Daily show, you would be in front of a firing squad the next day or locked up in a gulag, is that what you want?

That doesn't really happen at that degree in China. But it does happen in Syria and Jordan.

either way, if you give government unconstitutional power to lock people up without trial you might as well call america Syria

That's unconstitutional and illegal. Most nations are not dictatorships or autocracies and putting people in jail without trial is barbaric. Neither is it acceptable to say that the constituion only abides to people living in the specific nation are not protected by the constitution. Constitutions protect people not nationals.

That's how tyrannical governments keep people from protesting and fighting against their abuse of power. If the person were a legitimate threat, you'd probably have something to charge them with.
