Yes. Jury duty is an essential part of our justice system, which we are obligated to participate in if we are to have a justice system at all. If a criminal has to be released to do more harm because he could not get his legally mandated jury of his peers to agree to his guilt, that's a problem. Not to mention that our legal system is notoriously slow, due to the sheer volume of cases. If an innocent man is kept in prison weeks or months longer than necessary for a crime they didn't commit because they can't get the jury required for a fair trial, that's also a problem.

Don't be a child. Put on your big boy or big girl pants and go fulfill your duty. Earn your place in society. This comfort isn't free. Sometimes you're asked to do stuff.

Yes, skipping jury duty is a crime. So doing so makes you a criminal. It's far from the worst crime you can commit, but it is a crime nonetheless. Yes, I do believe a couple of months of jail time to be an appropriate punishment.

Yes, they should. It is everybody's civic duty to go to jury duty. As far as I know , where I live if you blow off jury duty a warrant is issued for you.

Because they are letting murderers out of jail within 24 hours, do you really think someone who skips out of jury duty will actually do jail time for it? The legal system has changed. It's open season for the criminals to kill, rape, rob people, push people in front of trains so they die & for no reason. They get away Scott free!

It's a very simple civic duty. There's no labor involved and employers have to pay them for the day. It's not much to ask.
