Lord of the Rings vs Harry Potter, who would win?

OK so if there was an epic all out battle between lotr and harry potter who do you reckon would win. In the battle it would include every character and army you see along with other creatures like giant spiders and trolls and stuff. For example harry potter would have like voldemort and his evil army and hogwarts and all that while lotr would have gondor and elves and saruman and all them. Me and my mate have been arguing over this, but I reckon lotr would win..

LOTR will win nuff said. How can a characters of a children book defeat characters of a mans book.

JK Rowling was just a woman tough on her luck that wrote a book and has no experience in the art of war, so her characters just don't know how to fight, just shoot flashy stuff.

JRR Tolkien on the other hand was an English writer, poet, philologist, and university professor, who fought in the damn World War I and survived World War II, who knows the art of war and just knows all his sh*t.

If he was alive he would beat JK Rowling with his cane at his old age and burn all the HP books just to make his case.

Well, to point out the obvious, the LotD universe also features gods. How would Harry fare against Morgoth or the Valar? I think the result would be decisive enough.

My entire fireteam had read the book when RotK came out. We imitated Faramir's Gondorian custom of rising and facing westwards for a moment before meals. Fun little anecdote, that, I'd actually managed to forget about it, haha.

I would have to say Harry Potter. I'm a huge fan of LotR, but the difference is that although Tokien created a intricate plot and magical universe, it lacks the gravity that HP seems to be drowning in. At least for me, when I read HP, it really felt like it mattered, on a level more than just literature. They stay in your mind long after you close them. LotR is amazing, but you just don't find that level of intensity.

Um "Lord of the rings" by far. Man "Harry Potter" seriously don't make me laugh. Merlin in my opinion is better than that.

Lord of the rings is in actual fact a very very good movie, now that is what you call a movie. Harry Potter man hahaha, is crap, what you have a little boy waving his wand around, whereas LOTR man, that is just f***ing awesome.

Well magic has the obvious advantage, so I'd say Harry Potter. There only seems to be a handful of magic users in the Middle Earth Universe, after all.

can magic take out an army of like 1 million while also keeping in mind the fact that sauron is invincible and hte only way to kill him is to destroy the ring. I'd say harry potter world would get overwelmed

are their millions of wizards? by assuming there are millions of wizards, you can assume there are millions of middle earth wizards like gandalf, due to gandalf coming from a different part and race to help destroy the ring.

Well it's a whole hidden world of wizards, so it's not so much an assumption, as it is fact, lol. Also, there's only like 5 wizards in LOTR. =(

I have read numerous pages on the lotr wiki, gandalf comes from a race of wizards, he jsut doesn't simply become a wizard. Plus Lotr also has Gods forgot about them thanks best answer :)

The deciding factor would be if the Gods can actually manifest themselves, or if they're just superstition, like our Gods. You put too much stock in LOTR wizards. There's loads of Balrog sized creatures in the HP universe that could kill them, I think. There's nothing to suggest their numbers in any of the books, although I'm sure there's more than the five named ones.

actually Gandalf the grey is the second powerful wizard of 5, called the rods of the 5 wizards. They reincarnate when they die, like the Dalai Lama.

the thing is sauron can't even die unless you destroy the ring, and he wears the ring and is immune to magic, since the whole HP universe uses magic this makes sauron invincible

LOTR by a long shot. The Harry Potter side may be able to field more wizards, but In terms of sheer military might the LOTR crowd would simply overwhelm them. Not to mention the fact that an Elven assault force could kill most of those little punks in their sleep before the battle even went down. Dumbledor is just a cheap Gandolf knockoff, and you should never bet on a cheap knockoff over the real thing.

Good point, but I don't think the modern military features into the Harry Potter stories too much, and therefor, I don't think it should really be counted.
