What do you think of gift cards as a Christmas gift?

I thought one gift card for my nieces and nephews to McDonalds

One gift card for my female friend to Red Lobster

One gift card for my parents to Tim Hortons

Cause I've picked out gifts for others they did not like and they've picked out gifts for me that I did not like.

But a gift card gives them the freedom of choice.

And then an Ultimate Dining Gift Card for another person
And then a Chinese Grocery Gift Card for my parents

I will admit if I had a girlfriend, I would be happy with a gift card to go on Walmart, Jcpenny, I like men's cologne not too expensive. Because everyone has a budget they live under.

Would prefer something hand made or at least hand picked. Gift cards are extremely impersonal.
