Yes, I have a credit card. I'm with @DishLady... I used to think they were of the devil and wouldn't do it, LOL. Then, I realized that I can also budget the amount I use on a credit card. Amazing! Shocking! Revolutionary! :D

Here's the thing: If I didn't have a credit card with regular monthly payoffs and usage, I would not have been able to rent a house, let alone buy one with a conventional loan. With no credit score, I have no debt payment history for lenders to determine if I am good for the loan or not. There are some things you can do to show dependability, like a share secured loan and Boost. But you need multiple credit types to be considered a great borrower. I have zero debt, personally, except an affordable mortgage. The "no credit card" rule is for people who have already been irresponsible with their finances. Kind of like alcoholics...

Credit cards are a tool like anything else; just budget the amount you spend and pay it like a regular bill every month. Don't use it as an emergency backup; you have an emergency savings account for that. Use it to pay your standing bills online. You'll build and maintain credit, it's a manageable expense, and you pay it off each month. Have a cushion amount for online ordering. If you incur a charge that you didn't make, the credit card company will take care of it, no problem. Also, don't use more than 10-20% of your credit limit. More than that implies that you are regularly using your card to compensate for an inadequate budget.

    Hope this helps! :)

    Yup, love her.!

Don’t let people scare you into not getting one and thinking they’re evil. I believed that nonsense for years. As long as you’re responsible and don’t spend money you don’t have, you’ll be fine. Take advantage of the perks your card has and just pay your bill off at the end of the month. 3 months tops to be safe. I have a friend who uses cards to pay for things she can’t afford. Do NOT do that. The card doesn’t make you it so that you can magically afford things. With that thinking people get in credit card debt.

Four, but I only use two.

My wife has a money-back CostCo account and we both have cards. We use them for gas and sometimes at restaurants or in stores. She pays that off every month so as not to accrue interest charges.

I have a card with a 1% interest rate that I use for on-line purchases and for the occasional expensive purchase. I currently have about a $5000 balance on that card and pay $200 per month toward it automatically, but I don't have to worry about interest charges.

I just have the other two cards in reserve.

I never use my ATM card for purchases. If someone got hold of that number they could drain my account and there would be nothing I could do about it. Credit cards cover you against fraud.

I have just recently asked for one from my bank. Not because I intend to use it. It's more of in case of an emergency kind of thing for me and I was wondering how many people actually own a credit card these days.

I’m glad you’re getting a credit card. That’s wise it’s a good decision but just use it in case of an emergency. and always pay it off in full every month so you don’t accumulate interest

You will do just fine remember for emergency use only or to pay a bill and try to keep the price down if possible on the purchases that you make and make sure that you always pay it off in full every month so you don’t accumulate interest

  • Absolutely, I do! While I tend to use my credit card mostly for convenience and to gather rewards points, I also love the added protections it offers, especially when I'm traveling to different countries for festivals like Burning Man. Whether it's booking flights, securing hotel reservations, or purchasing tickets for concerts and art exhibitions, having a credit card just makes everything smoother. Plus, with all the expenses that come with pursuing my passion for art movies and exhibitions, those reward points come in handy! 🎨🛫💳

noone owns a credit card, it's the property of the card issuing company and it's worthless without them, for they own the network.

I use some because I can use their money and get the $ back they are confiscating from the merchant, for which I often return to the wait staff when used for restaurants.

Only the debit card varients, I don't like the concept of having a card thats so extremely easy to steal thanks to all the info just being plainly on the card having the ability to go into debt. Its a separate account with only what ill need in a shorter timespan.

If someone steals money on your debit card you can't get it back, unlike most credit cards.

Repeatedly, banks had tried to smuggle one in for me.

    I resist:

if I need a ''credit'' to buy basic stuff, then something is wrong with my income handling.

I also won't get baited into working for the money bags simply because consumerism had brainwashed me into a zombie existence.

That's why my wife and I only have one for us, plus one for her business, and one for mine (neither of which are used often). And we pay off in full each month so there is zero interest.

I have 5 of them if you count my gas card. Last month I got a letter from one of the credit cards that said I jhave not used it in over 3 years and if I do not use in in 30 days they will cancel it. I guess I will only have 4 of them.

Technically, the bank "owns" it, but they let me use it.

We have our family card, I have one for my business, and my wife has one for her business. That's it. The rest gets done with cash or gift cards.

Yup! Here's a great trick kids! Pay off your student loans on a credit card and that earns miles or something. Transfer the balance to a zero interest introductory card and keep doing that til it's paid off.

I have three. Credit cards are important in building a good credit rating IF you always pay them off. Plus, I get sky miles on one of them. I buy everything on that card, and I accumulated enough points to mostly pay for a trip to Hawaii.
