How do you feel about self-check out instead of cashiers? Do you let security check the receipt? Do you need staff to get locked up stuff?

I worked as a cashier. It's not nice feeling replaced and there are many people that enjoyed having a chat with me whilst serving. BUT as a customer I totally get and like the self service machines. Mostly they are quick and easy abd the days of really huge ques seem to have improved. I only dislike when there is a problem and you have to wait ages for a human to come along to sort it.

I think they ere good and convenient but instead of replacing people they need a couple staff more standing to help out and always have option of live tills for those needing social interaction or just dislike self service. Best of both worlds.

They didn't fire cashiers. They just got moved to different departments. But I guess they hired less new ones.
The place I worked was pretty reasonable at sharing profits with the staff through save as you earn share schemes.

I’m not picky. I’m good with either. Most still have one or two cashiers… if no line I go to a human and chit chat a bit. Other wise self check out is good too.
I was a cashier in HS - I moved on to have a career.
security check … not an issue. I have asked staff for assistance with locked up merchandise.
I am not fussy about these things.

I did question the morality and responsibility involved here, several times, but I couldn't find a satisfying and definitive answer. So, I'm acting randomly when shopping, between humans and automatons...

I don't think I can oppose security though, or if I can, I didn't know?

I refuse to use "Self Checkout" and if I've gone through a normal checkout will not let security check the receipt,
If they insist and I have not left the store I will abandon the shopping and phone my bank and block the payment.

As for me I believe in workers & when it comes to jobs nowadays we have to save jobs not abolish jobs. As for stores I prefer a cashier & as for me I always walk past the self checkouts & stand on a line with a cashier even if the line is long or I have a few things.

I prefer self check cuz I don't wanna talk to anyone and cashiers make me feel rushed especially being with my kids. It's easier to self check, take my time and bag how I wanna bag, stop if my kids are crying and care for them real quick

I sometimes use self-checkout and sometimes I go to a cashier. I have nothing to hide, and have no problem showing an employee my receipt, if they ask... politely. But I'm not going to volunteer it, unless I know it's a normal policy, like at Costco.

I will usually look for a checker. As far as I'm concerned, if the store puts it one me to check myself out, then they have lost the right to check my receipt. Note: Many stores ARE pulling their self-check-out lanes since people are walking out without paying.

How can you refuse to show security your receipt? I use it but my mom refuses as she thinks it eliminates jobs (which it probably does).

If something is wrong upon checking out it feels like a day has passed before you get someone who knows what to do and even then it is still a cluster fuck because updates and corrections have not been programmed in by the head office.
