Do you prefer using self checkout machine instead of a live person?

Only if they don't require me to bag everything and leave it on the scale... cause I drive so far in, I usually have two carts full of stuff, and that just really sucks... when they tend to be for like 15 items or less.
Lets just say its not fun to bag two carts full of stuff at a self check out.
You do realize, thats a robot to replace humans
Just take some plastic totes with you. You don't have to bag and unbag your groceries and don't have plastic bags all over the house. I can box them faster than bagging too as you are always changing bags.
@Daniela1982 That's a good idea if I had a place to store them, when not in use. Something I don't currently have.
I hate self checkout. The barcode scanning doesn't want to do right sometimes. I prefer a cashier
I hate bagging groceries and all that
You do realize, thats a robot to replace humans
@humanearth i know and i hate it

If I am not in a rush and the line is not too bad, I like to chit chat a bit with the cashier. I worked as a cashier in HS in our neighborhood supermarket, C-Town or Pioneer. I still like human connections to some extent.
when in a rush, I am in and out using the self checkout. Itās a nice feature.
If I have a few items, I don't mind.
However, while I usually avoid walmart like the plague, I ran in one evening and had quite a lot of items. I was surprised to see all the check out lanes closed. An employee said self check out was open. I didn't appreciate having worked all day to come to Walmart and have to do somebody else's job for them while the girl who is the paid walmart employee stands there watching me do her job for her. It had been a long day and this really irritated me.
Yes because I am embarrassed. I once had a card decline and it was an awful experience.
Morally I would be against them but the cashiers I get at Walmart and most other places are never happy about what they're doing and it mainly seems an inconvenience to them. Especially if I am buying a large quantity of items. I was spending a few hundred dollars once on groceries and some household items, and the cashier was clearly none so happy about my shopping spree. So I always feel like I am doing nothing more than inconveniencing them.
Even though self-checkout is more convenient I find myself running into problems so I use the cashier I do know people who use the self-checkout and have ripped the store off which I do not believe in I am anyone being a thief, stealing from a store is illegal and punishable by law.
@exitseven Error fix- I do not believe in anyone being a thief or stealing from a store
If I am positive I know I can work the machines and don't have it mess up on me, I will use a machine. But I prefer to do my transaction with a person. Besides, most of the time I had to get a person to help me with the machine so I just go to a person to start with.
But you have to watch the live checkers at Walmart. They hook your bags of stuff you paid all around this carousel and when it's time for you to leave with your stuff, sometimes a bag gets left on the carousel, so I always check all of the bags on it before leaving the store. A few times it was still on the carousel š
Self checkout. I HATE human cashier service! They don't even put stuff in your bag the right way because they don't care. And not to say I do this, but self-checkout is a hell of a lot easier way to steal. If caught, just go "Oops! I forgot about this one! Silly me!"
Depends how good looking the cashiers are. I'm not standing in front of a machine if I can talk to her
I hate them I can't find the bar code on half the stuff and then someone has to come over anyway because I'm buying alcohol.
Itās still a live person. There is always someone to monitor the machines. They make so many mistakes, freeze, etc. but still quicker.
You do realize, thats a robot to replace humans
@humanearth Yup. Monitored by humans because they canāt function properly without them.
Monitored now, but thats to get us used to them
@humanearth They havenāt changed anything where I am. Still just as many checkers. They have been around for a long time too.
Long time my butt, they were not around in the 1970s
@humanearth Long time being enough to see an impact. And that being zero. Other then not having to hear people with few items whining about having to wait for people with two carts worth.
No, but I'll use it if I have to. I figured out what NOT to do, so I canusually get through without an issue.
You do realize, thats a robot to replace humans
@humanearth yes
Self-checkout. No offense to any cashiers that may read this. Iām quick about ringing myself up and bagging my goods. I also like to keep cold foods with cold, laundry stuff with laundry stuff, etc. Iām sure some people already do that, but not in my area.
Whenever I can. I donāt like having to socialize all the time.
When buying just a few items I will use self-checkout.
You do realize, thats a robot to replace humans
I always use those when it's busy but I much prefer the live cashier.
You do realize, thats a robot to replace humans
@humanearth Yes, and I don't seem to be saving any money through it as a consumer. I only use those when I'm saving time.
I always go to the person I usually do curb pickup thou. I live off grid on a huge property so I really don't need much from stores
I hate to break it to you, but you're technically not "off grid" if you have internet.
@Jamie05rhs it's a satellite thingy that works when it wants to but I get what you're saying. I have these discussions all the time. Some people argue that it's not off grid because I have solar electricity. Off grid is usually defined thusly:
"not using or depending on public utilities, especially the supply of electricity"
@Bratsondanielle If you have solar electricity that's independent, then you're off grid.
If you have the type of system that's plugged into the electric company, then you're not off grid.
And internet is debatable, yeah. Lol. Satellite internet might qualify you, but it's a matter of opinion.
Yes people have different options on it
I use self checkout whenever possible. It's even better at places like Home Depot where they have a scanning gun - I can do 40 items in about a minute. And since I am paying by card, there's no need for another person.
No I prefer human to human interaction. I donāt want to cooperate with a system that is forcing people out of their jobs.
Yes grocery store managers. I want you to actually give real life people jobs instead of machines. I donāt want to have to ring up my own stuff and figure out how to squeeze it into the little plastic bags that you always have to fight with to open up.
Iāll gladly pay extra for a real person. They can be a senior citizen or a pimpled teenager, I donāt care.
I'd rather go to a live person, then I don't have to think so much about what I'm doing, because a lot of times I'll go after working a 12 hours shift at the hospital and my brain just wants to shut down at that point.
Oh yeah I would do it on my own unless I can find a shorter line. They're getting rid of plastic bags in my area due to pollution so it'll probably make even more sense to do it on my own unless they'll use paper bags. I guess I'll find out
I like self checkout better. Much more privacy! Usually less of a wait too, since there tend to be so many of those machines.
I use Human checkouts, bad enough we are being replaced by robots
Besides, I'm still paying the same if I check myself out. I don't work for the store, so why should I use a robot.
Now if they gave me 20% off my bill. I might use them
Come to think about it, I rather pay full price to keep a human working
I have tried them and it's very helpful. It varies. Sometimes I feel like being the boss and cashing by myself and sometimes I feel like going to a live cashier
At our local mini market, no. I like to have contact with them. Self check at the super market, shorter line and cash free and am not gonna put 100 things counter
Well, if I had a third option, I would pick neither and order offline cuz I'm not a people person, nor do I like being heavily looked at by employees when I'm at a self checkout. xD
Since when do we have to pay for products since Biden was put into office. Didnāt you get a cell phone free tooāļø
I have never used the self checkout. I don't get a break in the price for checking myself out. I prefer to go to a check out with a live person.
No. I hate self check out & find it annoying.
I'd rather go to a person and have them do it for me.
Yes
If the supermarket has it, i will always go for the self checkout instead of a live person
You do realize, thats a robot to replace humans
So your okay with humans being replaced. What happens with 2 billion people are put out work by robots?
famine and global death tolls unseens since the ice age
Yes, I use self-checkout whenever they're available. I just used the one at the supermarket this afternoon, buying groceries.
You do realize, thats a robot to replace humans
@humanearth It's essentially the same machine that checkout personnel use, not a robot. I, the customer, still have to scan every item, deal with coupons, bagging the goods and payment.
Stores have self-checkouts to reduce the number of employees they have to hire, which in today's world, is getting more difficult. They are finding it doesn't really save them money because theft is higher... some people don't scan every item.
Well if your doing a casher job, you should get 20% off your bill
When I buy small numbers of things I prefer self check out, more stuff I prefer a cashier. The pandemic has increased the number of items it takes to prefer a cashier over a robot.
For the convenience of quick checkout for small items, the self-checkout is fine. However, for every self-checkout machine, an employee has their hours cut or eliminated.
It largely depends on how much I am buying. If I'm buying a lot, then I don't use self check out.
Most stores in my area you have no other choice, but self-checkout.
No, I use cash and they don't, last time I used one for more than 1 thing it took the attendant 5 times to get me through
I usually use self checkouts because they are and there is usually a wait at the checkouts with a Person behind them, But I do miss talking to a live Person at the Checkouts.
Depends on the queue. I don't mind an actual person at the checkout
I feel like people go to a live person instead of self checkout because that is the laziest option. They would rather have someone do it for them. With that being said, self checkout for me for sure.
The only reason I chose to go to self checkout is because the regular lines were taking too long.
Not really unless itās taking too long there then I will use it
Absolutely not; except, if there are both, there is a big line at the live person.
I only use self checkout when there are tailbacks on the other checkouts.
I would prefer to do it myself, yes...
You do realize, thats a robot to replace humans
@humanearth that robot does not replace a human... it frees a human to do so much more and many other things... than just packing and checking groceries
No I donāt work at the store do I get a check for scanning my own stuff? NO
No. Real person. Also it's like the rare in-person interaction I get these days.
Yep. I got bagger skills and use maybe 3 instead of 7.
Get rid of self checkout and support human operated jobs before you get replaced next
Self checkout for sure
Yes! Itās faster and more convenient.
definitely self checkout. Usually is faster for me
Yeah much faster if it's just a few items
Yeah, whenever they're available.
Self check out is a lot faster
No, I still prefer the human element.
No, Iāve never used those.
only if there are long lines.
Self checkout for sure.
Yes it speeds up the process
I like self- checkout.
I like self checkouts.
Detest self checkouts,
