This stranger is walking by me as I'm loading my car with groceries and I take the cart and put it between the front of my car and the other car in front of me and DIDN'T take it to the cart corral. Obnoxious dickface throws his hands up in the air and says "come on dude the corral is right there!!". Then tough guy says to his wife "What a fucking asshole!". I barked at him LOUDLY that he can go fuck himself BECAUSE what Mr. Magoo didn't see was the guy parked in front of my car, where the cart was now between our cars, had signalled to me that he would like it since I was done loading my car!!

Should I have let it go? What would you have done?

Just a misunderstanding, let it ride. I probably would’ve been like “relax, I’m leaving it for this guy over here.”

But one of my top social pet peeves is people not taking their carriage back to the corral. I used to shag them in high school when I was a bagger at a supermarket, probably based in that, haha.

I always say “what someone does with their carriage tells me everything I need to know about that person.” So I get where the guy was coming from in spirit…. but maybe also mind your business and just shake your head to yourself, don’t police it.

I’m a guy who goes the extra mile and brings the carriage all the way back to the store to where I got it from. My legs ain’t broken, and I don’t like to be one of these “uhhh, they have people they pay to do that for me🧐” types. I’m also a back-of-the-lot parker, so it adds a little time, but whatever.

So to me, if I’m doing that, there’s no reason any able-bodied person can’t AT LEAST get to the corral. There’s levels to it.

- All the way back to the store: Good Samaritan status

- Corral: Decent human being

- Propped up on a curb of an island: Lazy as fuck, but at least showed SOME measure of consideration for other customers’ cars, but not so much for the workers

- Leaving it loose: you are the problem with humanity🖕🖕

So, this dude was a busybody who maybe shares some of my sentiments but goes further with enforcement than I would. Although I’m always tempted to walk past curb-proppers and loose-leavers and say “just couldn’t make it, huh?🤨”😂 But ultimately, my Golden Rule is mind your own business at almost all times. So this dude violated that principle, and wasn’t even correct in his critique🤷‍♂️

I've had people argue that by not returning the cart, littering, etc that these antisocial behaviors are actually job creators and as such should be recognized as productive endeavors, not laziness or rudeness.

I completely understand the point and to be honest I wrestle with that a little.

Now that I think of it, shopping carts requiring coins to unlock (the ones I know of) would have prevented this situation from happening. Unless you do use coins and let them for the next guy?

Even if frowning upon someone abandoning the cart is customary, as it's an easy and pleasurable way to point fingers at, the "fucking asshole" line is way too uptight in the context lol. So I can understand barking in return. Momentum...
