After grocery shopping, do you fill the bags yourself, or does the cashier fill them?

I fill the bags myself. Cashiers don't provide this service. Since cashiers may not be as meticulous about bagging, it's best for the customer to do the bagging themselves. It's best to do it yourself. This way, the bags will reach their destination more safely.

When I go to the supermarket I always put the items I've bought into plastic bags. I have a system of separating cooked meats from uncooked meats, and vegetables so that nothing gets contaminated, which is difficult because we use the same bags over and over again.

Sometimes space is restricted, but I always pack my own bags, even if it means after paying for my groceries, carrying them somewhere I can pack them in my own time, and not being rushed by the next customer, though I'm usually much faster at packing than the available customers.

We haven't had those for years. We're forced to used those god awful self checkout lanes, and they raise prices, so that we have the privilege of paying for the convenience of doing it ourselves. 🤮

Our cashiers only scan items and handle payment/money, you have to bag or put in the cart yourself. When Walmart tried to enter the German market, they also brought baggers, but they failed spectacularly.

Because bagging is an extra expense for the market. Customers can do this too.

Where I shop, there is usually but not always a cashier and a bagger. If the cashier is working alone, then I bag them as she scans them.
