Have you ever bought something that was so bad you instantly regretted it?

I bought a couple of products lately that were so cheap that quality is doubtful, to say the least.

- Foldable headphones : they don't fit properly, the place where it is supposed to fold has an edge that hurts the top of your head, and the sound is awful, completely muffled. 5 € for the bin.

- A bag of clothespins that crumble to pieces when you first use them. I went through 50 of them, 2 have survived so far.

They're not even worth sending back, or spending any petrol to drive back to the store.

What have you bought that qualifies as junk?

I'm terrific at buying bargain basement cars for next to nothing, and turning them into good cars.

This time I decided to splash out on my dearest banger to date. They always have problems, and this car was no different. I spent time and money on the vehicle, but I didn't have any more time available to put the car right.

So the last resort was to take the car to the local dealers that specialised in that type of car.

It was an old car, but was well worth the money being spent on it. Amazingly, they said they couldn't diagnose the problem, or wouldn't, because of the cars age, and probably would much rather sell me a shiny new car.

They suggested replacing all the electronics, and that would cost a fortune, with no guarantee this would repair the car.

Sadly my expensive old banger had to go to the graveyard in the sky.

Normally, old (er) cars are easier to maintain, provided you can find spare parts.

Modern cars are trickier. Even your local repair guy will probably have to hook it up to some computer program to find out what's wrong with it.

I don't give any credit to brand new electrical cars. A serious problem with the batteries means a total write-off. It must be the fastest depreciating type of vehicle ever produced.

In Spanish, we would say : "Lo barato sale caro". Literally, cheap turns out to be expensive.
