5 moOh hell yes. I've been screwed / made bad purchase decisions.
- Topping the list would be a Mercedes SUV that sold for $75,000. It was a flaming disaster that eventually being sold for scrap because Mercedes failed to honor even a NHTSA mandatory safety recall. That car was out of service as much as it was in service. Engine. Two transmissions. Constant and various electrical failures. ABS system would trigger the brakes randomly at any speed. Brake booster failure due to rust. Constant battery failures due to current drain Mercedes techs could never identify. DO NOT BUY GERMAN LUXURY CARS!
- At disaster number 2 is an Ariens commercial zero turn mower. Huge expensive mower for my 0.75 acres of lawn. It was a constant headache the first year of ownership. I had the dealer service it at the beginning of year 2. They failed to refill the engine oil after they drained it. I got it back and started it. The engine promptly seized. It was destroyed. The dealer refused to stand behind their product or their service. I junked it and bought a $600 EGO 21" electric mower.
Stuff like the above is what helped lead me to a minimalist lifestyle. Expensive and complex does not mean "better". It often means miserable. I like simple and elegant with little chance of breaking. And I like owning less stuff. Fuck Capitalism and a consumption driven economy.

Out of curiosity, in which factory was this Mercedes manufactured?
- 5 mo
@DryGermanGuy,
It was built in the beautiful red state shithole of Tuscaloosa, Alabama here in the USA. I'm certain that was the source of the absolute shit quality. But that doesn't get Mercedes off the hook. It's their brand and their "German Engineering". And it's their fault they failed to control their quality standards when they opened a manufacturing facility in a foreign market.
Why they chose a shithole like Alabama I can't imagine. Oh yes I can, state tax incentives to bring in jobs for an uneducated, unskilled labor pool. What could go wrong? And it's Mercedes fault they chose to walk away from their warranty and force a class action lawsuit.
To be fair to Mercedes, the reason I trusted them for the SUV was prior to that piece of shit, I owned 2 AMG sports cars built in Affalterbach. Those 2 cars were bulletproof. I beat the snot out of them on a daily basis and they never broke. Perfect reliability and solid durability. They just required routine maintenance.
But that SUV was in the shop so much I had constant Mercedes loaner cars. I witnessed a huge drop in quality over the years in the E-Class and the GLC and GLS I was driving every other month. I don't know if that applies to German produced E-Class and G-Class vehicles. - 5 mo
Yeah, I was assuming it to be from Tuscaloosa. I remember constant quality assurance troubles and complaints coming from that factory. Definitely the nadir for Mercedes.

A laptop that looked good on paper but was terrible in practise. I sent it back to the store as there is a 14 day legal return window. They incorrectly took it as a repair despite me explicitly telling it wasn't one, held it until the refund window was up, scratched it to excuse that refunds were not possible and only then sent me it back.
I should have sued them, but I was to young to have the balls to make a legal threat as it would have been a clear cut case. Couldn't sell it in good consciousness as it definitely wasn't worth the money I paid with how bad it was. Ended up indefinitely loaning it to my aunt who was new to computers and didn't have a computer at all, she has had it ever since and has been enjoying it a lot.

In college I bought not one, but two guitars. I got it in my head that I wanted to learn to play the guitar. The first one I bought was a terrible cheap starter thing I didn't really realize was for kids, off of Amazon. It was clearly pure junk and so light I thought it would float away. So then, the genius that I was back then, I took my actually broke college self to an actual guitar store and bought a $250 Yamaha. I got back to my dorms, and no sooner did I pull it out of the (face palm) $100 case, then did I realize, I realistically (read: definitely) could not afford, nor play the thing without annoying every single neighbor I had and not being able to afford stuff I actually needed. So two days later, I returned the Yamaha and the case, and donated the first cheapy one to the thrift.

m 5 moonly one time, yes... that I can remember
it was a pizza...
as I was to order my regular "heart-attack" pizza, the cashier lady did tell me about their new option, and for whatever reason I didn't pay much attention and I just said "sure why not, let's try" I thought... why not live a little
the crust was filled and refilled with some sort of creamy-cheese and it wasn't even a good one, or not to me anyway...
8 giant slices of that thing... and I didn't had any more than the just one first bite, lmao... so I just laughed it out, my friend ate as much as he could, then we just gave the rest to some kids that were playing around the place, lol10 Reply I bought Mtg Spider-Man collector booster boxes for 400 on release, they're down to 290 could've saved myself 110 each if I hadn't been so hasty. The set was getting hated on but I didn't care as other sets collectors became very hard to get after release even before so and jumped up a lot.
I still 100% know that these will eventually dry up, and start going back up and hit 1000 one day and I'll make profit. Just going to take longer than expected.
Investing into collectibles be like that, the market is more unpredictable and prices vary from week to month to year but in the long run it's always profit as less exist and price goes up. So I won't care by then even though now I regret.11 Reply

15 years ago I bought a 2011 Mazda RX-8 brand new right off the lot after test driving it. At first I liked it & after two months I couldn’t wait to get rid of it. The engine was really underrated, the keys wouldn’t work twice due to the electronic chips inside failing & a few other problems as well. The vehicle looked great inside & out & for a brand new vehicle I wish it had a more powerful engine. I traded that joker in & got something else.

I bought a Rolex watch at the mall at mayors jewelers they’re very expensive Rolex watches they cost thousands of dollars I got the Watch home and it had a scratch on the face. which bothered me. My neighbor told me not to worry about it. It kept bothering me, though so I took it back and I got a total refund then I went to downtown Miami at the official Rolex dealers. I got the same watch for $1000 cheaper but then I added a diamond face to it so I worked out better in the long run

Yes, a few video games that I didn't like:
- One of them had really crappy controls.
- One of them was too difficult even on the easy difficulty settings.
- One of them had first-person view (I really don't like that kind of view in video games)
10 ReplyThe main thing I hate is when products have a hidden subscription. Like I bought this picture frame for my mom where you can upload pictures and she can see them but you need a subscription to do it it only costs like 3 bucks a year but I still hate it. You can only upload pictures when the frame is on atm so it's just a pain in the ass. Now I'm just gonna send her pictures once in a while and she can upload them whenever she feels like it. This whole thing was a mess.
00 ReplyNot really regretted it, some purchases were a waste.. Like a wrong size shirt or a waffle iron you ended up never using.. Or for example wity my last car, the dealer didn't tell me about some problem.
That's a shame, but regret is much more intense.10 ReplyAN Insignia TV. (BestBuy store brand). It looked good and functioned well, but it only lasted 1 1/2 years before it dies. I replaced it with an LG TV.
The longest lasting TV I have ever had is an Admiral TV from the late 1990s that still works. I kept it for older video game consoles.
00 Reply@itsannalee Bought some VERY expensive pillows from Living Spaces that were supposed to be, the living end for comfort. They weren't! Living Spaces would not refund for them. My Credit Card company charged them back on the purchase and refunded the money to my card.

I ended up buying new handles and a new front wheel for the old one and fixed it and it is the one i always use. The new one sits in my shed and it is still brand new.

5 moSeveral clothing items I've bought via Amazon were not as described or sized. So many standard sized items are being cut undersized, so here I am - 5 ft 7.5 inches tall and have to buy XL Tall to even get a T-shirt that will stay tucked in my pants! If something is not as described, we return it and buy another from Amazon (if we can figure out which one) for just get a better item elsewhere. Amazon's loss for not being accurate/honest.

4 moYep I sure have. It was when I was a kid and paid a pizza guy in all pennies. I regretted it and felt so bad. My bro stole the actual cash. I felt so bad, I snitched on him. My dad made him go to the store and pay in cash and tip the driver in front of a very crowded Restaraunt. Oh by the way, my bro is a convict now. Oh I also bought some supplements from a lady selling for a pyramid scheme once also.
