My boyfriend got me really expensive jewellery and I'm kinda disappointed

It's just that we've been together for almost 2 years and I never wear jewellery, NEVER. No rings, bracelets, earrings or necklaces, nothing.

Why did he get me jewellery now? It just seems like he doesn't know me at all. I know he just got a huge promotion but the money he spend on a bracelet and a few earrings could easily have send us both on a short vacation.

I know it sounds horrible to complain about that, but I'm just kinda disappointed in him. Is it wrong to feel that way?

I totally understand why you're upset, because the gift in your mind represents how much he knows you, but I think in this situation, the thought counts big time.

I'm almost willing to bet he noticed that you don't wear jewelry and figured, its probably because no ones ever bought it for you or for whatever reason. He's thinking, hey, I can get her something she doesn't have which I think is very thoughtful.

Perhaps it wasn't the perfect gift because its not what you wanted. Most girls would have given him major cool points. I say look at this positively and say he was very thoughtful in trying to get me something he thought I'd appreciate.

Depending on your relationship communication level, you can even be honest and tell him, hey I am so flattered and grateful you got me this beautiful jewelry, but it's not really me. As you can see, I'm not really into it, just wanted you to know so you have a better idea. Still, It makes me very happy that you thought of me. I really appreciate it. This then gives him the opportunity to fix it and even if he doesn't he won't be insulted that you're less than happy.

I think your wrong by thinking he doesn't know you just because he picked jewelry for you, Guys don't assume things and he might see you without jewels but it doesn't necessary means that you don't like it, unless you have told him you don't like jewels and he still bought them for you, then yeah I would be mad but if you have not said anything you can't be mad or disappointing.

Plus the thought its what counts. Just think that during the process of buying that jewelry it was you that was in his mind.

maybe he felt bad about not giving you something to symbolize how much he cares for you? or maybe it was pressure from the media/society... who knows. if I were you, I'd be honest with him. tell him that you lovelovelove the fact that he thought to spend that kind of money on you but that you would really prefer that it is spent on something that you both can enjoy, e.g. a short vacation.

I hear what you are saying but I wouldn't look into that much.

For one some guys are really bad at buying gifts, so they stick to the basics.

Jewelry is also one of those basic, default gifts that guys are told all women love, so we buy it a lot because we think you guys love it.

He may have thought it was unique because you don't already have a lot of jewelry.

Jewelry can for a lot of people house a symbolism of something serious. Many guys feel like because of the price take and preciousness of jewelry, it signifies your commitment to that person. In other words, I love you so much, I'm willing to spend a lot of money on something very rare and give it to you, as opposed to some everyday item, even if that item would have been far more practical that the jewelry.

Don't hold it against him, I'm sure he means well. Appreciate the thought of his gift. It could be worse, he could have not bought you anything. This is just one of those things that generally doesn't prove to be a good indicator of a relationships health. Don't read into it like I know you girls like to do.

Well I guess its a popular culture thing..Men are led to believe that diamonds and jewelry are the way to a girls heart.. Maybe he felt pressured and thought he had to? I don't know. Maybe he wanted to make you feel special or something.. Maybe he felt that he had been lacking in that department of giving you expensive jewelry.
