Every single Democrat I know of is definitely in favor of Bernie. No idea why polls show otherwise. Democrats can't stop talking about Bernie, and generally feel meh about Hillary. Yet people aren't taking him seriously.

In America, Socialism = Bad even though most people have no idea what it is and that it's actually really good.
Also, I think socialism is pro-capitalism in many ways when done right.
- People are much less willing start a business if their entire livelihood is at stake. Socialize basic needs, and people are free to take more risks.
- There are a lot of regulations on businesses based around people keeping jobs, having certain numbers of jobs, and revulsion against automation, because peoples' lives are determined by their job stability. WIth socialized basic needs, there is less need to regulate businesses.
- I was just discussing earlier today: Universal healthcare, socialized tuition, and things like basic income are much better than things like Obamacare, scholarships for poor and minorities, and foodstamps.
Why? People complain about having to pay taxes to help poor people, or select groups of people, which is what the American system does. When these are socialized, everyone can reap the benefits of their tax dollars at work.
@OpenClose I agree completely, I have always felt this way. However the one thing that has always bothered me about socialism is that there will always be people that will decide not to work. If a person's basic needs are met and they don't want anything else than they can simply live of welfare.
Yeah, see that's the tricky part.
For one, you need to hone in on people's natural desire to self-actualize. People naturally WANT to be involved on projects larger of themselves and make something of themselves. This is one thing psychology points out as well. They find that workers are more self-motivated when you make enough money for it to be off the table.
Two, these basic necessities shouldn't be anything luxurious. For instance, they say everyone has a right to internet access. Instead of giving people computers, you send them to the public library. Want your OWN computer? Get a job. Want to eat WELL? Get a job. Want a good car? Not rely on public transportation? Get a job.
@OpenClose Another thing that I've been thinking of which could work well for a socialist country is a national database of places that are hiring. Have all employers put all the information on a government website (hopefully it would work better than the Obamacare website).

And, really, leftists, you must stop that "cutting taxes on the rich" mantra. Libertarians want to cut taxes for everyone.
@TheSpartan which is why it's magical thinking. Cut taxes for everyone and yet, somehow, magically, revenue is going to be OK. Nope, you'll just end up paying more sales, property and local taxes so that things can stay afloat. But of course, those small taxes won't affect the rich. On top of that, the richest people already have tremendous tax cuts in the form of tax evasion and loopholes.
@TheSpartan And if Rand was serious about cutting federal spending, he would go to the biggest source of waste, which is the military budget. Of course, he will never touch that, and he'll start yelling about terrists the moment anyone mentions it.

In contrast, Bernie Sanders has a ~40 year record which proves he's not all talk.
Like voting yes for congressional pay raises? or voting to raise the debt ceiling every time? I will give him props for voting against NSA spying, but saying that the answer to big government is more government sort of throws me off to be honest.
