10 Things I Encountered My First Year Working At An Amusement Park

This past summer I got my first job ever. I worked at an amusement parked that I lived close to. While for the most part I enjoyed my time working there (I'm gonna go back next summer), I have many interesting memories. Here are 10 thing I encountered my first year working at an amusement park.

#10 Ride Photos

I worked in Merchandise. That meant I would work in a gift shop, candy shop, or ride photo. When I worked ride photo I would check to make sure nobody made an inappropriate gesture, or else I wouldn't show the photo and warn them not to do it again. While I did see a boatload of middle fingers, there is one thing I saw people do way too much. Dabbing. Everyday I would see anywhere from 10-50 people dabbing. There were, however, people that do funny poses for the camera. The funniest one I saw was a family pretending to choke each other out.

#9 Guests Passing Out

If you ever want to see a person pass out, go to an amusement park. Why? Because when you mix roller coasters, food, and 95 degree weather, things get very interesting. I've seen ride photos of people passed out, people being barely able to walk, and everything in between.

#8 Attempted Flirting

A lot of teenage girls go to amusement parks. I've even had a few flirt with me. The only problem? They flirt like I do, horribly. This one time two girls asked me where a roller coaster was. The roller coaster was close, so I gave them simple directions. They were looking at me like I was freakin Nick Jonas. One of the girls then said "Can you repeat that, I'm bad with directions. Sorry". I didn't flirt back, so it was really awkward. I've even had girls that were like 12 flirt with me. Talk about awkward.

#7 Free Candy!

Working in gift shops meant one thing to us employees, FREE CANDY! Our gift shops don't have cameras, so as long as our supervisor isn't around we can eat the candy we sell, drinks we sell, or even food we bring. If we get caught we'll get written up, but I'm like a ninja when I eat it.

#6 Rides Shutting Down

At the amusement park I work at, some of the rides shut down...a lot. They often shut down when nobody is on them, but a couple times it shut down mid-ride. One day it was about 100 degrees when people were stuck. That's one of the reasons I don't like our coasters.

#5 Vomit

Once again, when you mix roller coasters, food, and 90+ degree weather, the vomit starts shooting out. Most of the time it's kids that vomit, but that doesn't mean it's not a lot. These kids vomit so much it's crazy. The worst part is if someone vomits in a store, the cleaning people don't clean it. WE have to clean it. I was lucky because I never had clean any, but I have a feeling I won't be that lucky next year.

#4 Waterpark Man Boobs

Our Amusement park has a waterpark. We also have a gift shop in the waterpark. When I work all day I see man boobs. I'm talking dudes that look like they have DDs. For ever attractive girl there is about 20 pairs of man boobs. Don't even get me started about 60 year old women wearing bikinis...

#3 Halloween-Not Scary

Our park turns Halloween-themed for the month of October. When it gets dark we have "monsters" that scare people. It can be scary, especially the haunted houses, but it definitely isn't too scary to me. The reason it doesn't scare me much is because of the people behind the masks. Most of them are normal teenagers. Even the older people don't scare me because they're just normal people. One day in our "behind the scenes" area a guy in costume held the door for me and we started talking. Talking to a guy dressed at Frankenstein definitely helped me with my fear of monsters.

#2 Dumb Guest Questions

Dumb guests. Where do I start? Some guests are just plain stupid. They think ride photos are free. They stand near a restroom saying "Where's the restroom?". They complain to me about the weather, like I can stop it from raining! We have a ride named after the late Dale Earnhardt Sr. This woman asked "Has he come and ridden it yet?". Dumb guests are the only thing that would make me not come back.

#1 The Same Music All Day

10 Things I Encountered My First Year Working At An Amusement Park

The park's music as a whole isn't that bad...until you go to the kids area. These are some songs on the soundtrack:

Boom Clap (Kidz Bop)

What I Like About You

Walking on Sunshine (Kidz Bop)

Party in The USA (Miley Cyrus)

Style (Taylor Swift)

Those songs aren't THAT bad, but once you spend 4+ hours listening to it you will lose your mind. I know lyrics to songs I hate. The songs get stuck in your head all day, even when I leave work!

Thanks for reading about my first year working at an amusement park. This is my first MyTake, so thanks for wasting your time lol
