That a Colt 1911? You did what you had to in order to protect yourself and nobody got hurt. I think it really made the difference between potentially getting jumped, robbed or carjacked.
I have not had to do this, but know that as soon as i turn 21, i'm getting my carry permit and hope that I will be able to handle myself well in that situation.
(1.) Badass you carry a 1911. (2.) Exactly why I'm getting a concealed carry, I work in bad parts of town and constantly attract the attention of "beggars" who may or may not be on substances.
What's funny is that a gun doesn't create a safe society, it appears to but it doubles the chances of a person to kill someone or to commit suicide. I am not saying what you did was wrong, he was obviously dangerous but that feeling that a gun gives protection is an ilusion many perceive individually, once you see the impact it has in society you'll encounter paranoia and people who shouldn't using guns due to their personality.
The man was becoming angry and threatening, wouldn't that scare you too? What if the homeless man had a knife and was just waiting for the right time to pull t out on him? You don't know what that man was thinking, he could've intended to harm him even before he stepped out of the gas station.
Him putting his hands in his pockets is a clear sign he is getting a weapon. Which does qualify as a perceived threat to your life. And thus, he was justified to pull the gun.
@Thisperson98 I don't know if it's just because I live in a country where people pulling guns is something that just doesn't happen, but hands in pockets doesn't convey that to me at all.
If he had visibly been holding a weapon, which he wasn't, then sure. Show him yours. But all that had occured was some dick yelling at someone else who imediately pulled his gun no questions asked. That's the kind of shit that causes situations to escalate.
There was one news report where a man came across a cop getting the crap beat out of him, so pulled his gun on the bastard doing the beating after he ignored his yells to stop. The cop was saved, the crook was caught, and after having his gun license checked and verified the man who pulled over was labelled a hero. This is the only situation where I will consider it a good thing they had a gun on them.
Not pulling a gun at a gas station cause some idiot had his hands in his pocket.
Actually walking towards you yelling is a good reason to believe he wants to harm you. And with his hands in his pockets, it doesn't care if he actually has a weapon or not, the law treats it as if he was armed. Because no one knows if he is armed or not, and guessing wrong could result in death. Also if the guy pulled out a gun and is pointing it at you, you never reach for your gun.
@Thisperson98 i love when liberals "stick to their guns" even when the situation is black and white and their views would have ended up with you being robbed, hurt or even killed. It's hilarious. Glad you were able to defend yourself. I'm sure BaileyisDarcey is shedding a tear over that fact that you might have scared your assailant
Darcy I'm not telling you to get a gun or that you're wrong, but I just wanna tell you to be careful cause that attitude is the one that gets you shanked up close and personal from one crazy motherfucker you were unfortunate enough to encounter in your entire lifetime.
@cth96190 we'd all be better off if you were able to legally shoot him. you would have saved his next victim who might not have been prepared to defend herself
This is exactly why we need more restrictive gun regulations. Any idiot like this one can pull out a gun and point it to anyone he likes just because. Why would you point a gun at a person that’s not threatening you? There’s a reason why this country has a disproportionate rate of deaths by civilians when compared to the rest of the world.

This happened to a family friend and he told a very similar story to yours.
Also, my grandmother was robbed at gunpoint once upon a time.
It's a sorry world. Glad it turned out OK.

Why did you even NEED to pull your gun? He was just asking for money.
Did you read the whole thing?
Yes, I did.
He asked for money, you ignored him, he followed you outside and yelled at you asking for money so you pulled your gun on him.
He was nowhere near you and you were at a gas station with plenty of people around.
I repeat, why was it neccesary to pull a gun on him?

@Hasaboyfriend
He could have just jumped into his car and drove away! Reminded the guy there were plenty of witnesses around or simply said fuck off!
I dont understand why the gun was neccesary.

He could have a bullet for free, from me.
The man was not 'asking for money', he was demanding it in what amounted to an attempted street robbery.
@cth96190 we'd all be better off if you were able to legally shoot him. you would have saved his next victim who might not have been prepared to defend herself
Yelling, harassment and putting his hand in pockets is a reasonable threat, any cop would have shot him.

I've never been in that situation and hope I never will.
I think you composed yourself well and did the right thing in the situation.
This needs to be shared with anyone who thinks carrying a gun is stupid.
Not an option here in the UK , no civilian is allowed anywhere near a firearm.
at least you didn't need to pull the trigger
Would you shot Arthur?
Well, I'm glad you didn't have to pop him.
