In the live action version of Mulan, they're still not getting it right. They're not going to use a Chinese actress to play her role. But, as for Tiana, I never liked the film because half of the movie, she wasn't even human. That wasn't something I would count as the first black princess experience.
I actually heard that before, about Disney supposedly white washing characters meanwhile half of those princesses came from a different and a white looking country so why are people getting offended again? Oh I know becsise Whitties are always trying to take over the Black folks. I'm honestly not surprised that in this day and age people are more racist than ever
I don't really care about the race of disney princess. But, if I wanted to defend those who care I could say that if they wanted to include more other race they would have include more other countries. A disney movie could have been based in the carribean for example.
I love jasmine! And... I agree. This is a good take

Black people blaming racism in everything is just like feminazis trying to constantly finding men's fault in the world. I don't know what the deal is. I've rarely heard other races complain so much about white people being everywhere.
I'm a PoC as well, but I don't give a flying shit about the disney princess' skin colors. Or how the smileys all look yellow. Or how many PoCs there are in popular TV shows.
The point of this take isn't just about cartoons. The point is that people accuse everything of 'white washing' or racism when that clearly isn't the case. There are many more examples of people saying things about certain things being racist just because there is no diversity in it. I could care less about Disney princesses, this isn't anything more than an example. I just think it's ridiculous when people complain about white washing
i don't get the discussion anyway. if white people wanna tell stories about white princesses, how is this a crime? black people can make stories about black princesses. nobody is gonna stop them do that. its dumb to act as if this is some suppression or inequality issue.
Disney princesses give me cancer. Disney just fucks up these classic stories and kiddy-fies them straight to hell. I hate nearly all of their films that are based on some kind centuries-old fairy tail because they deviate so far from the original source material that it is no longer the same thing. Disney... just... ugh I need to punch something.
Yay Mulan! Disney princesses are cool. I love learning about what cultures they all originally came from. I'm a big fan of the French ones and the Danish and German ones are cool as well. How come none in Britain? (unless you count robin hood) I also like Pocahantas wonder what native American tribe she was... Should have one set in Africa that's not about animals although lion king was awesum
I 100% agree. Disney seems to be going the other extreme nowadays though by changing the race of characters such as Ariel in the live action remake of The Little Mermaid to avoid being racist. It's NOT necessary.
To be honest I don't really pay attention to any of this stuff. The whole princess and barbie thing just breeds bad messages to young girls. They grow up with this whole princess and fairy tale complex. good post though
I think that racism will never truly be dead until we consider the color of a person's skin to be no more worth noticing than the color of their hair or eyes.
I love Disney - the stories actually transcend race. Why be a cynic and pick apart stories that are meant to be magical for children? I love ALL the princesses! Even the blond ones!
Well in some things African Americans do over react but I agree. But think of snow white at that time they didn't really have the rights today. Mulan and Pocahontas are not white but now we are open to more cultures like Meridith.
White washing/racism is an important topic. It happens everywhere. This example just happened to be about Disney characters. But there are accusions of white washing in a lot of other different scenarios. Just trying to show that not EVERYTHING is white washed and that the people who are the ones getting angry about the "white washing" are the ones who don't know what they are talking about and who are making a big deal out of it

Yeah, it did kind of bother me that she was a frog the whole time. I thought the plot was pretty boring too

In the caribbean? Haha I'd love to see how they do that one. I bet it'll mostly be the beach
Ya, with a 3D cartoon, it would be a beautiful environment for sure.

Anyone who really has the time to bitch about the ethnicity of cartoons should find something more useful to do with their free time.
Boo fucking hoo, a picturesque and physically impossible fictitious character isn't what you think it should be.

Well said. And it sounds like an angry rant

She was a real person and part of the Powhatan Tribe in the area around Washington, DC today.

I heard this but who care doesn't have to be a big fuss lol
But if people didn't complain then what would they do with their time? :p lol

my favourite is the one where u say cindarella isn't white washed because the people who made her were racist that was a good part of this article
*Stands up in applause*
Thank you for this scholarly contribution to humanity!
Leftists in a nutshell.
Self loathing is strong in them.
I love how white people try so hard to justify their racism. It's hilarious.
I'm black actually
We need a Disney princess in a burka.
That would be great
