What does it mean when a guy says let's take it one day at a time?

I've dated someone a month we've really been hanging out enjoying eachothers company already intimate , we live in separate states and then I recently asked how he feels about us , he shyed away from the question. And replied let's just take it one day at a time. I would have liked a real answer that wasn't so vague so I could see if I'm waiting my time or not considering we live so far away

I understand your concerns, concerning the distance, but this reply is respectful, its meant to express that your enjoying the way things are progressing, so without ruining that progress, lets not get involved with a premature prediction and reply to that question, and just allow things to keep going as they are because things are working out quite well at an acceptable pace for now.
