It's a stereotype that may have been based on a few over-publicized accounts, or it may have been a conclusion people made about east Asian immigrants who had never seen cars before but suddenly had access to them, or any number of reasons.
I do know a Chinese fellow who was a student at my college. Owing to the state of things in China, he was never able to afford a car and thus never bothered to get a license. If I were to say to somebody "I have an Asian friend who can't drive," that could telephone-game into "Asian people can't drive." It really isn't surprising that stereotypes start to exist, when it's so easy to make them without even realizing it.
Lol i was on a peddle boat on a lake today and some fat Asian fuckwit came along in his powerboat with no clue as to how to turn and smashed into use at about 20 mph. Luckily we jumped out of the way but for real i was tempted to climb in his boat and drown him.
Sorry our small eyes sometimes make it hard for us to see others.
Im Asian im not a bad driver... Hhaha (asians do have nice cars though) so you guys can think about that..
i reckon its the older generations though.. From being fast to the furious at a young age, the older we get we just get big 4x4's so we can just take up the whole road and people may think that we can't drive.. Some people can some people can't

I also live in a big city where there is no real need for a big truck. I have a modified sedan. Yes boys and their toys...
What about motorcycles? Ideally buying a big truck would be a bad idea in a big city.. I have a motorbike but i live in the suburbs but work in the city.. Its better then being in peak hour

my mom always said Asians are bad drivers.. especially Asian women. i never really believed her until we went to an Asian market once and oh my god, that parking lot (yes it was full of Asian drivers) was the craziest. they are horrible drivers hahaha no offense though. im just stating my personal experience with this!

Since you're not from the US what kind of stereotypes are there about Asians over there?
I think it has more so to do with people that haven't learned how to drive while young. Let's say you grow up in the 3rd world and have never driven before. You immigrate to the 1st world at the age of 35 and decide to learn how to drive. It's more difficult to learn when at a much older age. Chinese immigrants did just that, and when they did they exhibited that bad driving behaviour, not due to their ethnicity but to their age. That's how the stereotype began.
I agree and there are a lot of other ethnicity of people in the same situation but then its always the Chinese that get blamed. :o

I don't really get that either. My brother is from Korea bc we adopted and we go to this festival every year and most people there are Korean and they seem like average drivers to me. My mom also knows a lot of Asians who are her friends who drive fine.

its a stereotypical phrase that is implied because if you look at Asians their eyes tend to be slanted so that it looks like they are half asleep or squinting, i think its quite a stupid thing to say honestly. its quite horrible

I've never heard that before but the Asians that I know are excellent drivers. My mother has gone 26 years without a single accident or demerit point. My dad has gotten 2 demerit points in the 26 years that he has been driving.

Where I live I see Asians run through stop signs like mad, almost crashed into two of em. I hear the no signal light thing but only really noticed stop signs mean go.

The stereotype that Asians can`t drive was implied from their common chinky eyes. Basically, saying that their practically closed. Therefore, Asians can`t "see."

I have seen how they drive and I have also experienced it. I hand it to them that they CAN drive, they just do it crazily. It is amazing how close they get and will never swipe or hit anyone, thing.
Se in my opinion it's not Asian people. It's OLD people everytime I get behind someone going 10 miles an hour under the speed limit or someone in the fast lane on the freeway beside a semi-truck holding up traffic or someone who has to come to a complete stop to make a turn it's always Ma and Pa Kettle just derpin along. I haven't heard many stereotypes in regards to Asian driving. I hear much more people stereotyping women as bad drivers, yet most of the comments I hear about women being bad drivers come from women themselves.

I would like to say as a driver myself. If there are a bunch of bad drivers and no accidents happening then would they not be considered good drivers? They would always have to avoid each others "bad" driving skills.
Bad drivers just drive choppily or turn too sharply, I obviously wouldn't know first hand because I'm too young but I have 2 older sisters and my parents

Yup. Your driving depends on how YOU DRIVE, not what ethnic group YOU BELONG. Yes some Asian are bad drivers, some are good. Similarly some white dudes drive horribly, some are good. There are less car accidents that lead to death in Asia countries than in the State fyi.
