Why does my cat smell like smoke?

No one smokes in my house and my cat seems to be fatter than usual. I like to think that the old man next door is visited by my cat and he puts my cat on his lap and feeds it butter and reads it stories about steam boats while he smokes his pipe.

My cat is the same. He's such a cuddle whore. We make sure we give him regular meals and good food and still he goes out and comes out smelling.

From talking to the neighbours I've discovered many things. He visits my next door elderly neighbour who lives alone to make sure he's okay and for cuddles.
He visits my other next door neighbours to break into their house for curiosity; has himself a little wander. He's also best friends with their chicken - he sniffs it in the face and the two of them sit together and chill. He occasionally tries to fish in their pond, resembling a failing child in water.
He ALSO goes and sees another set of neighbours. And again, he gets along with their dog.
But, worst of all is he visits the nursing home at the bottom of my garden. He is a little local attraction. He loves absolutely everyone and everything. Except other cats and magpies. Hates them.

So yeah, your cat sounds to be doing similar but getting food in the process. If he's getting food other places you can either - up the quality you give him, and he'll turn his nose up at others food. Or, don't give him as much.

Although, I also know he has gone to the police station before... but yeah from visiting so many people he comes back smelling like smoke and bonfires!

Is your cat and outdoor cat? Is it eating and drinking normally? Is it using the bathroom regularly? Has it been lethargic lately? I need some more information and I might be able to help you out.

yeah my cat seems to be using the bathroom just fine and is very playful but it won't eat the food i give it but its a lot fatter than before. Its an outdoor cat

Is it eating at all? Or drinking? It could be a thyroid problem or diabetic issue.

yup he is drinking and he only eats the prime cut steak i cook for him but not interested in pet food

Hmmm... But he is eating right? What breed of cat? What gender and how old?

its a he and he is about 7 years old. Im not sure of the breed but we found him when he was a baby sleeping in a rubbish pile so we took him and looked after him since. He is black and white if that helps.

Do you go to the vet regularly? I would say it could be hypothyroidism-but you said he's active/not lethargic. Is he drinking exerciseivly?

Since he is gaining weight I'm going to say it's not diabetes.

yeah he has been to the vet recently and the vet said he is ok. He doesn't drink too much.

Both my colleague and I can't come to an agreeing conclusion. Especially since we're doing this over the Internet; my suggestion to you is to take the cat to the vet one more time.

That is a plausible explanation about the old man but it's probably cause he goes out and sits next to chimneys, my cat used to do it and come in stinking like he'd been in a bar all night.

i get the feeling your neighbor wants your cat to smoke his pipe, which is why he's clearly drugging it with maryjuanna.
