It's happened to me quite often, and to my GF too. A friend of hers "promised" to see her last weekend, but of course stood her up. She had said "maybe".
Another thing is when you ask a girl out and she says "maybe" ... Why not just say no lol?
Everyone knows "maybe" is synonymous with "no," even them. They probably feel like they're doing you a favor by giving you whatever bit of hope they can. You're right, they should just come right out and say no but would you have been able to handle that?
Not "everyone", clearly. People who say "maybe" are moronic and lead people on intentionaly. I had to learn that maybe mean no.
My guy says "maybe" much too often. It's really annoying. He also says "I don't know" a lot. It annoys the crap out of me because he says it so much.
" I don't know" is almost as bad!!
It's worse, in my case. I've been needing to talk to him about something personal and serious for two weeks now. Whenever I ask him when/if we can talk, he just shrugs and says "I don't know" and sometimes I'll say "can we talk? RIGHT NOW? Please?" And he'll say maybe and then something will come up and we won't be able to talk.
Whenever someone says 'maybe', I take that as a 'no' and exclude them from my plans.
I don't really 'hate' it, but i don't rely on plans when someone says 'maybe'.
It's just plain confusing, happened to me recently: www.girlsaskguys.com/.../q1323208-she-seems-genuine-but-is-she-leading-me-on
