How do you draw dreadlocks?

I'm having a hard time drawing dreads... why the fuck are they so hard to draw?

This are not my drawings. But dreads are pretty easy to draw, imho.

Just look up some hair tutorials and references, and try to learn from those.

Think of it as a shape instead of hair. Group them all together and draw the general outlines then work your way in by picking out noticable dark and light spots
