First just draw like a wee sketch/blueprint similar to this (use pencil and do it lightly)
Then search for images of whatever already existing characters you want to use as inspiration like this (see the connection?). First get an idea of what you want them to look like without looking at anything. Try to use more than one inspiration source so yours doesn’t look identical.
For shading, I just draw the shadows in places wherever something is blocking it. Like this Albertosaurus. Look between his legs, his thighs, and calf’s. If you ever try to draw dinosaurs, just draw all of the outlines first like the socket and skull structure and do the shading BEFORE all of the scales. Well for everything but the neck sometimes. That’s what I did here. With dinosaurs, of you try to shade after doing all the details it will look weird and unnatural. Also an extra tip. If you want your dinosaur’s skin to shine or reflect light (they are wet or something) then draw the shape of the shiny part before drawing the scales. Then draw the scales in that area lightly if it’s inside.
There are your drawings? you're so talented im jealous 😞 thanks for the advice though! I only seem to draw proper looking characters when i have a picture of the character in front of me, i just copy what i see. I can't see to draw characters without them looking like a stiff tree trunk. How did you draw the full body image of the guy without looking at a full body image of him? Its the hardest thing ever for me
My characters are made by me. I just use other people’s characters as inspiration. Sometimes animals too. Like with Blessed Horn, Snowy Owngel, and Dicerosaurs
Thank you. And another thing for dinosaurs. To make those plate things on their toes kind of blend in/look more natural, just do a little shading at wherever the line ends at.
Thank you once again. Also for scales, don’t make them 100% circles. They each should be different like you, I, and my cats and kind of mixed with the shape of a hexagon. Just look very closely and you might know what I mean. If you’re drawing the dinosaur facing you, then the scales should look more like ovals. Maybe I could make a wee video…..
No, I’ve never been in one. Yes, I do have discord. I am Black and White#0713
I will share something I love to draw if I put my mind to it and that is Covered Bridges
one thing you can use is White paper with Black charcoal and put a Picket Fence also could use drawing pens with multiple colors instead of Black Charcoal here is an example of Covered Bridges
This is from our local County Park called Mingo Creek Park, If you ever visited this park it's a place that makes your stress levels low and makes you feel calmer
This park is legit and if you ever come to Southwestern Pennsylvania into Washington Pennsylvania also Washington County, this is like 16 miles South of where I live but hope this helps you out
Yes, when drawing faces, consider the three dimensionality of the face and draw the face as if you were carving a sculpture, study proportions and focus more on capturing character than you do about capturing visual mechanics when colouring your artwork and don’t be afraid of hyper contrasting colour, also consider mood, a mature mood uses tertiary colours and a basic mood uses primary or secondary colours.
Your welcome, happy drawing : )
yooo u draw? what digital equipment & software do u use?
i'm pretty shit so the best advice i can give is that there r tons of rlly helpful utube vids - also idrk how helpful this is since u can already draw but w anime hair, sometimes i start w a base colour, then make 3 layers for shade, highlights & that extra strip of highlight that som artists do
Yes, use reference material. Get a decent posable art figure (i recommend a body-kun and body-chan), don't be afreatd to use a picture of the model as a base to draw off of (perspective is super weird and is hard for everyone), you can even create a base by snipping parts from pictures and amalgamating a model base from that. To make a character not seem stiff. Start with a curvy line of the position you want the character to be in.. repetition is hard, but it improves the drawing of hard parts such as hands and feet. Use rulers and drawing tools.
Also use anatomy references, small details make an art piece look even more amazing (like the small divot with socks where the elastic grips. Or proper breast stretch when women lift their arms)
I have an entire playlist filled with drawing advice on yt if you want help. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLvaRRvQaL3gKwSjxExlWSeOKglfOiYGWa
I can't give you any advice about drawing directly but from my experience in writing, if you keep doing it and exploring and trying to learn new techniques and focus on writing (or drawing) stuff that makes you proud of it more and more you'll automatically get better
I learned this in art class in highschool: for shading, imagine where the light source is coming from. Then draw the shadows on the opposite side of where the light shines.
Glad to share, I hope it helps : )
Draw three view profile of existing anime character heads for exercise. Drawing hands in different positions and perspectives is good exercise as well.
Even if you're talented in drawing, without training your talent means nothing.
Practice making lines straighter and circles more circley

I can barely even draw a house, it’s literally a square and a triangle 😭 You just gotta keep trying because eventually you’ll get better and better at it
As someone who can't draw to save my life, I got no advice.
I wish I could help. I only draw real people.
You need to decide where the light source is going to be for your drawing. You could use the sun for example. Sections of the hair will partially reflect the sun. Those hairs will be lighter. You need to use different shades of the same color. For instance, I would use lighter and darker graphite pencils. Some hairs will be tucked on the side of the face that is not getting as much light. That area will be darker. Remember not to use a tool that will make an individual hair too wide. If the hair is not going to be straight forward and straight, you might want to draw the hair in sections so you can focus on the curves and shadowing. You could have individual hairs hanging slightly past on the side, top, or across the forehead. When drawing eyebrows, study real ones to see what type of angles the hairs have.
You're welcome. Good luck.
If you want to get real good take classes
Draw better

Its never too late to start drawing. Its not something someone's born with. With practice you can do anything :) i was in fact reading a comic where elderly ladies started taking drawing lessons despite their age. Not that you're old! As long as you're still alive you can learn to do anything you want :) im still not good at drawing but i try
