Why is he trying to get closer to me lately?

I don't really know him...I know him in passing, we say 'hi' and lately he's been trying to start conversations, with the most banal things...like the other day he asked me if that was a hoodie of Iced Earth I wore... BUT IT SAID SO ON THE SHIRT! It was sort of a painfully silly question!

When we have classes together he looks at me..but not just peeks, or gazes, he STARES because I don't look at him so he obviously thinks it's okay, because he doesn't think I noticed it. My friends, who are...either of then sometimes with me, say he can't keep his eyes off of me, which I know is true, but do not know for what reason exactly!

The other day, he called me by name, and I never even knew he knew my name! Haha

...weird...

I know this all sounds like he must like me...but I doubt it, so I'm asking you to give me a reasonable explanation which isn't this!

Also, lately, I've noticed that (he always just hangs out with this one guy...his best friend I guess), and this 'best friend' of his keeps staring too...when HE is not.

You know, it is normal for people to get crushes. Don't be so harsh!

To me, it sounds like he is trying to get to know you, and you are being rude. You might not mean to be, it could be that you just don't have experience with guys. Whatever the case, I feel sorry for the guy. It is hard for most people to approach someone and start a conversation. He deserves credit for having the guts to try. There are plenty of times I haven't noticed "obvious" things, like what is on a person's shirt. If he had looked, you might be complaining that he was staring at your breasts! Give him a break.

I don't know if you like him and would be open to getting to know him. Or if you are not attracted to him at all. If you are not attracted to him and you don't want this to go anywhere, then you should try to make that clear. But remain polite. Don't make fun of him for having the guts to talk to you. If you do like him or don't know, also be polite. Just talk to him like a normal person and find out what he has to say before judging. Maybe you'll find he is a cool guy. Good luck!

Yep...I already know he's a good guy..and I think I could like him...but I am not sure yet.

I like him as a friend, but he has a lot of potential for something more as well.

I'm just not sure what are his true intentions?

I heard someone say he has a girlfriend, which then can't mean that he's trying to flirt with me, or get to know me because he wants something more than friendship...so....I don't really know what to think momentarily.

Well, it sounds like you are trying to figure out what is going on and that's fine. If you do like him, it would be a pity if he did have a girlfriend, because I think you might want to avoid guys who cheat. They usually don't change! Until you have made a decision about where this is going, just keep chatting with him and being polite! Don't pressure yourself. Good luck!

He likes you a lot but still it seems a bit like a stalker to me. But he has a crush with you and wants to see how it will go and maybe you like him back :) and when his friend looks at you he is probably telling him who he likes and such. so yeah. if you end up not liking him let him down softly because everyone knows how it feels to be rejected. it sucks.
