It is only bad if you're not happy. Every career and job is potentially a dead end job. The happiness you derive in life comes from you, not what you do for work, the company you work for, or the pay you bring home (as long as the money is sufficient for survival and you're ok with it). If you are smart now you will prepare for retirement. If you don't you will work til you die. Last holiday season I went and got a part time job at Target to relax a little. I learned I liked working at Target over what I went to school for (I don't ever state my career I don't want to be bothered with questions about it). However over the years I have created for my family and myself a lifestyle expectation that Target can't meet or even come close to at the store level so it wouldn't have been a wide career move (lol) I am happy with what I do I just liked Target because it was stress free. Ask yourself if you're pleased, research what may make you happy and pursue that.

+1 yI'm reminded of what the great John Wooden said:
"Success is peace of mind which is a direct result of self-satisfaction in knowing you did your best to become the best you are capable of becoming."
-John Wooden, UCLA basketball coach who won ten national championships
So the question is... have you done your best to become the best that you are capable of becoming? For some people, being a receptionist IS the best that they are capable of becoming. For others, it's not. The fact that you are questioning it tells me that you probably think you are capable of more.10 Reply
+1 yIf you love the position you're in, then it's not dead end... if you don't like it, and you believe it to be a dead end job, then seek advancement. I was a receptionist and didn't like it very much... I worked in an accounting firm, and the phone calls usually consisted of very rude wealthy people yelling at me on the phone if my boss wasn't taking any calls, and hanging up on me. lol. But I don't think ALL receptionist jobs were like mine.
All in all... do what you feel is the right thing to do. :)10 Reply
+1 yNot at all. The main thing is you are responsible and reliable enough to obtain and maintain a job. That is a lot more then some people. If you have a dream you want, then you should take steps towards achieving that goal. If not then you just do what makes you happy!

+1 yI'm a believer of "do a job that makes you happy". If you have at least some fun at your job, and you earn enough to let's say feed you and your possible future child, then that would be enough for me.

Yea but you're not a guy so though it may hurt your pride, it won't effect our love life. I've never once considered what job a cute girl had unless it was really impressive, or I met her at a job. If you're okay not being the money maker you should be fine.

Its really nobody else's business though to look down on you because of your job. you have a job and thats all that should be important00 Reply
+1 yNo - you have an income. But obviously if you long to do something else, maybe give that a shot.
If your question was dating-wise, then the only thing that would be bad about it is if it makes you miserable and I as a partner suffer because of that.00 Reply- 310 opinions shared on Other topic.
+1 yNot at all. You were born in a developed country and don't have to starve every night or worry about getting your head chopped off. Not sure how many realize, but most of the world doesn't live like Americans or some Europeans.

if you still dont know then it is time to ask yourself what you really want.
It isn't bad as long as you dont suffer under mental stress due to crazy bosses
and like what zombiebabe said be happy you have a job00 ReplyNot bad but not the best you can do. You're 24. You are young and have a long life ahead of you.. Make the best out of it. Keep working at your current location but take part time classes and further your education.

As a result, I would say it is a stepping to a career that requires communication skills.10 Reply

@I_am_repulsive it's not that hard.

I never said it was hard, but you were kinda questioning that she had a job in the first place. "You have a job?" That is somewhat insulting. What exactly were you trying to implied by that.

@I_am_repulsive the tone was supposed to be funny and me being disgruntled with myself more than anything...
