Sometimes I pick fights with my crush for no reason, why?

Once in a while I will send my crush something, just a question that ends up making me regret it and since he doesn't answer the question does that mean he's angry with me?
He's usually really nice to me whenever we talk but then he's rude in a playful way when he notices someone else in the room. So is he angry with me, last time I thought he was because we weren't talking for a while, but when I asked he asked me what I meant and had no idea. But when he doesn't answer then I just start apologizing. what is going on with me, is this a girl thing?
