Why are people so disgusted with interracial dating?

Question

I have dated pretty much every race I can think of. I have dated an asian, black guys, Porta Rican, Mexican, and white. When I went out with the asian and the black guys I got so much shit for being with them. I was called white trash, and something about an oreo and a bunch of other things when I was with the black guys but when I was with the asian I was told I could do better, I didn't count because my boyfriend was asian etc.

My question is, why are people so disgusted/ uncomfortable/ not accepting of interracial relationships?

I have dated, exclusively, white women. One of the most beautiful women whom I know, and wanted something more with me, confessed she had been with a man from India. It ruined it for me. We never went further.

I am not what I consider a racist. Growing up my family had every race as foster children, and adopted a pair of black twins. I simply hate stupidity, and that occurs in blacks and Mexicans as well as whites. I do, however, find myself completely turned off to the idea of interracial dating. Oddly enough, I'm ok with white men with ethnic women. If my son dated a black woman I'd be completely ok with it. If my daughter came home with a hispanic I'd have serious reservations.

As hypocritical and sexist as this may be, to me it seems to be a deep seeded type of dominance. I have seen black men surround and harass a white man who is holding hands with a black woman. Mean while, they have a white chick hanging on their arm. If they are so unforgiving of a man of a different race with one of their women, why should I be tolerant?

I am not open minded. I was raised to be tolerant, but the world changed my views.

Im not gonna lie, I am a white guy that is pretty much only attracted to white girls.  Is cause I am racist? Nope it is just what floats my boat.  I did however grow up in a very rough predominantly black area in the south.  Therefore even though my school was diverse, racism pretty much ruled the social structure of my school and area.  I didn't really have a chip on my shoulder, but lots of black girls liked me anyway and kept trying to get with me.  I was not only concerned with the social retributions of my white friends(whom most are racist) but also all the racist black thugs (we also had lots of racist white ones as well) that ran rampant in my area.  People who grow up in areas like this are pretty much forced to be racist and have bad feelings towards people of other races.  I just write it off simply because I would not want to her or myself in harms way.  I think I am lucky that I am almost only attracted to white girls cause it sure as hell makes living where I do a hell of a lot easier for me.

People don't realize it's the 21st century and when they see a black guy with a white girl they are disgusted because they are not use to change. Some people believe that people should stick to their own race and not mix and other people think that a specific race should not be mixed with other races. I'm sure you got more shit when you were with a black guy or asian and less shit when you were dating a Puerto Rican or a Mexican (keep in mind that hispanics are not considered a race and therefore considered white) because it's less extreme with a hispanic then it is with a black person or a asian person. People don't like CHANGE and deem it immortal but kudos to you for not giving a f*** and dating whomever you want. Don't be discourage they are the one's that are narrow minded people. They are not the one's dating the person, you are.

Most of the time people who think like that we're raised to think that way and some people just think that it's not a natural thing to do but look who cares what they think? I mean for real you date who you want to date because your not going to change there minds anyway so why even stress it?

Ignorance.  Fear.  Hate.  Ignorance leads to fear because people do not or will not take the time to understand that race is just a physical feature and has NOTHING to do with one's actual personality.  Fear leads to hatred because when someone feels that they cannot conquer, comprehend, or can't stand the thought of losing something, they react in a negative way.  It's a sad, sad thing that this world is cursed with, and God knows when a remedy will arise.  People need to realize that we all are ONE RACE.  We are people.  We are humans.  We all share the sun.  People need to understand that viewing the world with their physical eyes and not seeing what's on the inside is going to pull them under.  It's all starts with ignorance.

Some people just have a stigma when it comes to seeing an interracial couple. It's not anything I'd worry about. You're not going to change the world or it's view point. When I was in high school, I remember some of the girls who dated African-American males stated they were doing it because they wanted to "feel like they were from the hood." Which is about the racist thing I had ever heard up to that point. Which brings me to the second reason people decide to be ignorant on this front, that is they believe the Caucasian female to be trying to prove a point or anger her parents. In which case those people are assuming your parents would have the same short sided view as them.

In the end, people are idiots and that's why very few are qualified to be decision makers, yet so many that aren't wind up in those positions. I wouldn't get too worked up over it.

I honestly could not tell you.  I am originally from South Florida where racism isn't really that bad, but after I moved up here to Pittsburgh I noticed that there are a LOT of racist people here.  The older generations seem to be stuck in the pre-MLK era, while the younger generation seem to be the exact opposite.  There's more racism here among the older generations than I've ever seen, but there's also more interracial dating among younger couples than I've ever seen as well.  It's actually more common here to see white girls with black guys and vice versa than white girls with white guys.  There's nothing wrong with that of course, it's just odd seeing it in contrast to the extremely racist attitudes of the older generations.

Some people just think it's unnatural, especially those of the older generation. Some people might be pissed off that you are taken so they vent their anger on an obvious target.

To be honest, why do you care? I mean, no matter what you do some people will disapprove so just ignore them.
