Is Michael Jackson considered black or white (after vitiligo)?

If Michael Jackson was alive and an ordinary citizen, would he be considered black or white? I mean, would he be able to use fountains used by the white while the US was racist?

I don't think so because he was born black and back then black wasn't seen as a skin color it was seen as a disease that wasn't worthy of the same god given rights as everybody else
