There is no equivalent. People don't complain nearly as much about women being immature. Women can stay at home, flit about, not get a decent job, but be vaguely sweet and cute and get married. Note that i'm not in any way trying to say 'and all they have to be is sweet and cute'. It's more the opposite. They absolutely -have- to be sweet and cute. Men are judged on their ability to be capable and independent and support and protect a family. Women are judged on their ability to be desirable, faithful and sweet with children. Failure for either to do so brings scorn.

Manchild is a gendered insult โ€ฆ just like 'live in parents basement' is only thrown at men, slut only at women, ugly/fat thrown MUCH more at women, broke at men, bitch at women, pussy at men etc.

The female equivalent of a manchild is most times really cute. It can be quite an attractive trait in girls

Its an attractive trait in females. Unlike popular opinion, we dont want our girlfriends to always be strong independent sturdy women all the time. In fact, we care little about that, aslong as you are a kind and fun person to be around with.

Example: When i walk with my girlfriend in public, sometimes i let go of her hand because its more comfortable that way.
And then she just straight out stops on the spot and says in a funny voice : "Nooooooo, dont do that. Take my hand back or i won't walk with you!".
By far one of the cutest things she does.

I understand, I also do such stuff with my boyfriend for lulz

Legit childlike behaviour would be: being too dependent on partner, throwing tantrums, whining if smallest things don't go their way, immature to handle any responsibility and on and on

These are indeed chld like behaviours, but they are negative. And you are right, they are not great
I guess when i was thinking of your question, i was thinking of all the positive and cute childish behaviours my girlfriend did. But there are definetely negative aspects to it.

You're right, they're negative aspects... Positive ones can be cute.

So I guess someone behaving completely childlike (positive+negative aspects) wouldn't be that nice?

Hard to decide. I can't tell wether the negative aspects about childish behaviour, would overshadow the positive ones.
Example: A girl being dependent on me wouldn't bother me much. Even though its negative to some extent.

I've heard "womanchild" a few times, but I think it's rarely talked about because girls being childish or childlike is often viewed as "cute," while a man being childish or childlike is more likely to be viewed as simple at best, downright pathetic at worst.

    It's a weird double standard.

But how can childlike behaviour be attractive? Children can be annoying at times

      Reply
    • DinaM

Because, as I said, it's "cute." You're right; children CAN be annoying, and very often they ARE annoying. But we (or at least most people) tolerate it because they are also adorable. There's something about their tiny nature and helplessness that awakens the nurturing instinct and makes you want to hug them and take care of them and make sure they don't come to any harm. It's really a survival trait; if we weren't predisposed to find children cute we probably wouldn't have given them the protection and attention they need until they are old enough to manage on their own.

I think the childlike behaviour in women is often seen as endearing because it's still a lot more accepted for a woman to be dependent on others and needing to be taken care of, while a man is expected to stand on his own and be independent.

This is of course a huge oversimplification and probably doesn't explain all the nuances of the phenomenon... but I don't think it's totally off either.

I have always used the term "princess," to describe those women. I think the reason that it's never talked about is that part of a woman's value comes from her ability to demand that her guy treat her well. Note that I said "ability," not that she uses it. So when people see a woman acting like a princess, people default assumption is that her guy just isn't treating her very well.

I think that women are socially supported to be girls as long as they can so terms for that will be slim because socially, it's positive for a girl to be called a child, not a child per say but you get the idea.

Agree with princess. A girl who hasn't grown up and still thinks that she is a princess and that every guy out there should treat her like daddy did.
