What if the girl lies about her age and purposely goes after older guys, should he still be in trouble?

Well now I'm 19 but when I was 16, I used to lie about my age. I wasn't the innocent girl pressured into sex as some people want to think. Sometimes it was me selecting the places and making the moves.

I always looked older and so took advantage of that. The first time I ever lied was when dating a 15 year-old HS freshman when I was a 12 year-old in 7th grade. I was already 5'6 (now I'm 5'10) even at that age.

Nowadays, I tend to go after college graduates but doing that while I was a minor was fun. Two of them dumped me when they found out about my real age though, even though I tried reasoning that it doesn't matter, that I didn't care.

yes she should, an old work colleague of mine was devastated cos her son who had broken up with his girlfriend after she cheated on him... was advised to go out and meet someone new.
after a few months he decided to do that, went to a nightclub (18+ only) had doormen at the door who one of which was an ex fraud unit officer so was used to spotting fake ID's...
he sat at the bar and saw a girl/woman who everyone had described as looking 21, her ID said she was 18, he approached, they got talking... they both bought drinks from the bar...
got to know each other and went back to hers
she told him he'd have to be careful cos her dad came to stay as he's not local...
so he got up in the morning to go the loo and bumped into a stocky guy, and it was later found out the girl was 12-13

despite all the evidence to prove he was mislead and could not have known as she even looked much older...
the judge sentenced him to 15 years in prison, and he was to be placed on the sex offenders register...

his mother had terminal cancer (was also given 12-24 months to live), and had to live out her days knowing her son was in prison for something he would never have done had he known the truth...
chances are he would never have been beside his mothers bed when she died... all because of the actions of someone who was underage and wanted to have sex with someone much older...

here in the UK though legal age is 16, however if a guy messages a girl under the age of 18 and they exchange conversations or images which may or may not be sexual in nature... that guy can still be done for grooming a minor...

and tbh most teh time no one asks for ID or asks how old someone is, especially if they look 18+ however it is becoming important to do so these days

In the face of the US law (in most "relevant" US jurisdictions anyway), all of them have committed statutory rape.
Not knowing the age of the minor is not a valid legal defense in statutory rape cases, not even in the cases where the minor lied about their age and you can prove it.

The burden of determining the minor's age lies on the adult.
If you try to use lack of knowledge or sex by deception as legal defense, it will be dismissed with the argument that the adult should have requested an ID AND confirm that it is not a fake one.

In most US jurisdictions there are no possible legal defenses in statutory rape cases.
Which means that even if you were to drug those men and rape them, they would still be found guilty of statutory rape.
