It does not have to be.

Some people took the wrong path in life and are now obliged to beg to survive. I don't think that would be called weakness but survival.

As for happiness or love, begging is a totally different thing and it is a weakness of character to have to lower yourself to beg rather than to fight for what you think is right in order not to have to beg.

I don't think it's a sign of weakness. Not asking for something when you need it, is a sign of weakness to me.
