Really, such restrooms are just begging for trouble and are a lawsuit waiting to happen. It does not take too much imagination to figure out that the first time there is some incident in such a restroom, the presumed injured/insulted/discriminated gender/genders/whatever will high tail it to the nearest lawyer to seek restitution against the business /facility whose restrooms were in some way inadequate to the needs/safety of the aforementioned gender/genders/whatever.
Put simply, such restrooms are merely the latest trendy expression of the American public's penchant for translating any want or whim into a need and thus, mutatis mutandis into a right. The consequences for such changes to be sorted out later, no doubt at great cost and in a fit of faux moral outrage.
Beyond that, it is really hard to get too vexed. It is more tiresome than anything. It being really hard to imagine that an individual of whatever gender who uses such a restroom will feel themselves vindicated and equal in the eyes of society. Alternatively that if they do, they should be envied for having a life so good that using a public restroom gives them a sense of righteous vindication.
By all means, let there be gender neutral bathrooms. Indeed, in the name of equality, all stall doors should be removed so that there can be legal confirmation that indeed ALL genders - beyond the long outdated two - are using the restrooms. Unless and until all can see that we have reached the new age perfect equality in every possible way, true equality will never be attained and society's gross inequality will be perpetuated forever and anon.
It was for gender neutral restrooms that there was fired the "shot heard round the world," great statesman gathered to declare the birth of a new nation in 1776, young men died on the beaches of Normandy and Martin Luther King wrote his letter from the Birmingham jail. Once we have such restrooms we may sleep soundly the sleep of the just. History will have reached its apogee and utopia have arrived on Earth.
Yes, I am being sarcastic. Good grief.
Actually, I recently went to a bar I've never been to before, and I had to use the toilet and when I got inside I just saw a row of sinks and 4 doors. I was like "a toilet for all?". It turns out the doors had a badge on them. Obviously went to the one for males, and it's standard male toilet. Several separate stalls (booths? What do you call them in English), and several urinals, and after your fi ish your business you have to wash your hands in the joint sinks. My point is, just by having joint sinks, the place spent less space on the toilets, less money on water and power instalation. If we could just remove the urinals (which every male hates tbh), we could have a very efficient way to make toilets, for men and women at the same place. Obviously disabled people would need a separate toilet because of the special needs. It's just my take on it. And you don't actually have to be afraid of anything. It's a public place. If someone assaults you, just yell and someone will come. I actually wish someone assaulted me so I could sue them and squeeze some cash from their pockets.
Eh.
I think transgenders should have their own honestly, with both commodities such as tampon holders and urinals.
Had a trans friend who would get irritated because he had to use the girls room to change his tampon.
Imagine a dude just walking into the girls restroom, complaining about bleeding through his pad for the 2nd time today...
It's stupid... if you got a sausage, pickle, shlong, johnson, frank and beans, you know a dick, then obviously you go to the mens. If you have muffin, poom poom, vay jay jay, whipering eye, key hole, sword's man sheeth... then take your ass to the women's rest room... i mean seriously... you're tearing me apart with the bullshit lisa!
At the bar where I worked, we had men's abd women's bathrooms separated. We made it a point that everyone could go to whichever one they wanted, but the men's had urinals and the women's had trash bins. Nobody complained and when there was a line, women went to the men's all the time.

I think people need to be honest with themselves and the reality of the matter. Just because you want to be, or think you’re a female doesn’t make it true. If you were born a man, use the men’s room. It’s an indisputable fact. That’s reality. Accept it.
If you’re afraid of how people will treat you, maybe you need to better sort out your issues and make some self-improvements. I’m not trying to be insensitive, just keeping it 100.
Nobody these days wants to accept responsibility for their problems, you have to, because nobody else will. And honestly, people are as tolerant as ever of LGBTQ’s... nobody is going to have a problem with you if you’re not already drawing unwanted attention to yourself. That’s half the problem with these people, they’re so flamboyant and outwardly pervy, most people are going to have trouble respecting that, because you just don’t act that way in public. They’re their own worst enemies. Just be cool about who you are, and you’ll have no problems with anyone.
It’s 2019. Act normally and live in the real world, everything will going to be ok. There’s no need for these political discussions, they are interpersonal problems and need to be addressed as such.
"Act normally and live in the real world"
This is the real world, and normally people don't make meddle in other people's business. Mind yours and we'll all be fine.
@HungLikeAHorsefly OP asked for opinions, I gave mine. I’m not attacking you or anyone else. I’m trying to help anyone that may face LGBTQ related struggles actually. Just offering a perspective that some people may not consider.
I believe it's fine because I know myself and I would never take advantage of that situation. I would only vote it's not okay because I fear what creeps may do if that is an option. I have a little sister and if she ever told me some guy creeped on her or made her uncomfortable in a gender neutral bathroom I would be furious and probably try to look for the guy so I could seriously injure him. However, if a woman feels comfortable with the idea of having a gender neutral bathroom and actually using it then I have no problem.
I'm surprised there are still people against this...
1. No more toilet queues for women
2. walking half a mile because there is only one male toilet.
3. You're in a bathroom stall! Nobody is interested in what you're doing in there.
4. Dangerous for women? There are laws against that kind of stuff, unisex toilets aren't going to increase sexual crimes... What's stopping a rapist from walking into the women's toilet if he is so inclined? What, you think women drop their panties and suddenly every guy goes beast mode? What kind of savage country do you come from?
Just asking for trouble. This breeds an atmosphere where men can rape women easily and also can set up scenarios where women can blackmail and falsely accuse men of rape. Nothing good can come of this. Also, sexual assaults have increased at every school that has implemented this policy. The research has not gone public yet (partly to protect victims and partly institutions suppressing it), but I work in a field where we see this everyday.
I think its fine if they were single ones.
If ya gotta go you gotta go.
Honestly, I love having separate bathrooms.
Whenever someone is following me or making me feel uncomfortable I go in and either find or call a friend.
If I'm at a social setting it'll make it harder to gossip about the guys as well :(
Honestly this is the one thing I like. As humans we shouldn’t be ashamed of each other in adulthood we all know what parts a man has and a woman it gets to the point where it really isn’t weird.
There may be women who say im worried about perverts etc the problem is that’s not exclusive in public there’s upskirting rape sexual assault being in a toilet isn’t going to change that it can happen anywhere and a toilet with cctv outside is the last place it is going to happen especially with other men around.
My one and only gripe is some men are just disgusting in the toilet but beyond that i’m all for them.
No. I put it doesn’t bother me but I changed my mind. Guys leave toilet seats up. No thanks. But I’ve also met girls who are straight up dirty also. So. I just try to avoid public restrooms in general
Same 😂
Bathrooms in dorms I stayed in were grocer neutral and bathrooms in homes are.. I don’t see the big deal
Of someone wanted to cause trouble they can easily sneak in. There should be security guards in bathrooms anyhow. But making it neutral is no danger.
I went to a school that had 2 separate bathrooms and 3 unisex bathrooms. I never saw an issue in them.
The one thing that I always found a little odd that some of my female friends just decides to tag along to the bathroom, but you get used to it.
Maybe a European/German thing that I am not really bothered by it.
If it's single stall, there's obviously nothing wrong with that.
If it's multi-stall, there's something very wrong with that.
If you are gunna create laws to mandate businesses to have gender neutral washrooms, then you need to fuck off and try and run a business. See how hard it is.
I was very confused on what to do at the only one I’ve been in. It was “All-gender”, multiple use, not a single person one. The trans people would be the easy part to figure out, lmao. My issue is, I’m supposed to be in there while a chick is in there too? I don’t love it, but I’m guessing women would REALLY not love sharing a bathroom with men, at the same time. Like how do you play that in a multi-person use bathroom?
Im usually open minded on many things but this is something I’m against. Women bathroom and men’s bathroom sound be individual. I don’t care if someone gay feels like a female or a lesbian feels like a guy but they should respect that fact that there’s also kids involve in this. You just never know the real intentions of every one.
I had them when I was in elementary school. We weren't old enough to know any different and there were about 8 stalls per bathroom. Rather convenient. Children would talk at the sink and ask how the day had been. Kind of peaceful.
I know that a lot of females may feel anxiety if adult males use the restroom when they are, especially if the female is alone. The world we live in now makes neighbors wary of each other and that isn't a way to live.
Girls have their own bathrooms men have their own bathrooms. If want to cut down on rape keep it that way
Exactly
I already have a hard time peeing in public bathrooms when I know there are girls around me. Can't imagine if it was both girls AND guys. Not a fan. I'd probably wait for everyone to get out before I pee lol
Yes, there is?
I wish I knew. That's just how it is. I know many people who are unable to do urinate or have a bowel movement while they know there are other people in the bathroom. Just something psychological I guess lol
As long as they still have urinals, and put in sinks without mirrors or room to put things down. The hope is that women won't be able to hog the washroom. I've seen way bigger line ups outside women's washrooms, and I just don't want to have to deal with that crap+ I like urinals. If they get rid of urinals I'll start using the sink as one.
For some reason they're kinda dirty as compared to female bathrooms.
Lol it's an observation.
Yes they are
To remain in legal code, we built built neutral bathrooms at the university campus where I work, in addition to traditional bathrooms.
They are a waste of space. No one ever uses them.
"it's dangerous for females"... dude in every fucking club i've ever been to, women go to the male bathrooms anyway, cause men rarely use the stalls cause they just need to pee. and where could it be more "dangerous" for females than in places with lots of drunk guys around? i don't think that argument is valid.
I see them similarly to family restrooms. Sometimes dads are with their young daughters or mothers with little boys. Sometimes a caretaker has a disabled adult they care for of the opposite gender. Sometimes someone simply doesn't want to be harassed. Everyone deserves to be able to pee.
