I sound dumb but my physics teacher honestly can't explain anything and I just need someone to clarify this. I know that p = mv but I honestly don't really understand how they got to the answer.

No problem I had the same issue in my yr 12 physics class. The first thing you need to do is convert Newton’s to kilograms. A kilogram exerts roughly 9.8 N of force onto the earth due to gravity. So 588 N is 59.959 kg. Then you multiply that by the velocity which is 9m/s to get 539.46 kg m/s.
