So, I’ve got this guy friend who talks about a woman he works with. He kept telling me how beautiful and perfect looking she was, so when I saw her for the first time, I was surprised. She was not what I had in mind. I guess I was thinking of society beauty standards, but she seemed pretty normal, average looking, more on the tomboy side, actually. She was by no means ugly or unattractive, but he made her sound like she could be a model, so I expected to see a standard model material looking woman. This made me wonder, if my friend finds her very attractive, does that mean he finds the “standard beauties” really beautiful, or would not find them attractive at all because his taste in women seems to be in the more natural, average, look? The picture shows an example. One the left is the more average look & on the right is "society's beauty standards".
I don't see why his preference should carry any sort of implications like that. All it says, is that he finds that specific woman particularly attractive.
There is no consistency in the "societal beauty standard". The only thing that is consistent in "celebrity looks" is the emphasis on make up and dolled up hair, but I'm pretty sure that men have mentioned a few times over the years, that this really isn't a relevant indicator of anything for most of us.
To me, celebrities vary in attractiveness just like any other group of people would. I think that Candice Swanepoel looks like a donkey, and I think that Emilia Clarke is ugly as sin, but I also think that Alessandra Ambrosio, Eiza Gonzalez and Emily Ratajkowski are super hot.
But at the same time, a bunch of people on this website seem just as super hot to me as those celebrities, and so does the cashier at a local supermarket where I buy my groceries.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. #Twlightzone But it's really up to the person. I say "you can't always get what you want... sometimes you just might find, you get what you need" it's being appreciative of what is before you rather than on dwelling on what you don't have. I'm sure others might be more attractive to him but it's her and I'm sure her inner beauty that he's attracted too as well.
Maybe he really likes her personality. It's gonna sound cheesy but if I genuinely like someone, meaning I find they have an amazing personality, they become much more attractive to me. More so also if I have feelings for them. So I don't think he has a different view on beauty standards but more of he enjoys the her inner self as much or even more than her exterior facade.

There's no such thing as "society beauty standards" it's the kind of thing you typically see on Instagram but that doesn't mean that's what everyone or even most view as the standard of beauty. They're both conventionally attractive.
He is 1. A simp that doesn't look at anything else than in a human other than her gender and her not being fat to make her feel like she is something 2. A normal person that likes her because she is nice and has a good character. Either one
