It’s my 31st Birthday today and I feel so sad :( how can I cheer myself up?

Yeah I don't like them. I wish they'd pass unnoticed, personally. I would ignore it if I were you.

But if you want to celebrate it, maybe bake yourself something special/new? (Do not blow out some candles by yourself though - that would be depressing!)

Watch a new or favourite movie?
You can gag, and just avoid all negativity for a whole day. Don't click on anything but light and fun stuff.

Call a friend, or someone you've been wanting to get closer to, or haven't spoken with in a while, and don't tell them it's your birthday, just have a nice conversation with them. Focus on them for a bit. Sometimes that is better than focusing on oneself.

This is a feeling I've come to be an expert with. I'm always depressed on my birthday.

First Happy birthday. Hope you have many many more in happier times.

Now I don't know the immediate details of why you're sad, like are you alone or aren't you having cake at all maybe.

But I want you to take a long look at yourself in the mirror and just appreciate that even though you're 31 you don't look a day over 24 and you're still extremely beautiful and very smart to boot there's nothing that deserves to make you sad.

I dont hate it because of the small gifts but I dread having so many people in my family flock across to you and parents overrbear me with sappy embarrassing stuff like "I remember when you were just a little baby, your Xteen now". "It feels just like yesterday when you were waddling around or doing X". I don't like too much attention, so when a spotlight is placed on me for 18 hours of the day, it can get to be too much.

Happy Birthday! Here’s something that should help. You have your whole life in front of you. At your age, you still in your prime and may be for a good while if you have good genes. You should also be at a point where your confidence and understanding of life is light years from your younger years. Don’t squander it with depression but instead give thanks for where you are and be optimistic about where you’re headed. You only have one life so celebrate!

Happy birthday! There's nothing like doing stuff. I bought a camera, I love photography. You can do something like that. Anything from videogames to playing guitar or taking care of plants. It's very helpful when you are so distracted that you forget about being sad in the first place.

I'm not big on birthdays either. I always get some cheesecake and sit up late and watch a good movie. One way I cheer myself up is I find a good friend to sit up late and chat with me late into the night. In person or in chat or whatever. I prefer my birthday to be shared one on one with someone really close to me. I have never enjoyed big birthday parties.
