The short version is because it has increasingly become a meaningless holiday beyond just an excuse to take time off work. There's a few other cultural reasons too: (in no particular order)
1. Modern education systems downplay the significance of the holiday, and will usually villainize the pilgrims as well.
2. Younger generations are generally less family-oriented than their predecessors. Thanksgiving is first and foremost an appreciation day for family and acquaintances.
3. Black Friday lands on the following day. Many people have rightfully pointed out the irony of people giving thanks for what they have on one day just to turn around and savagely beat each other to buy stuff in stores the very next day. For a lot of people, this day is more important.
4. For the paranoid morons who take every little statement by the CDC as gospel regardless of how contradictory they are, they're basically being told to more or less ignore the holiday this year and transition from a family feast to a "bring your own meal" get-together with limited attendance.
For what it's worth, my Thanksgiving typically involves me, my sister and parents getting together for dinner. That's about it. We all do our holiday shopping online beforehand, often with better or more reliable deals than what is offered on Black Friday. This year won't be any different, except I might try to visit my grandparents around the same time.

To comply with the covid recommendations we have canceled Thanksgiving this year and instead we a having a funeral and wake for my pet turkey. Last year it turned into a cremation. We are hopping not to have a repeat of that happening this year! R. I. P. Tom
I don't know I've always thought its because Christmas seems to be a bigger holiday and people celebrate it more and believe there's more to Christmas but doesn't mean Thanksgiving should be left out. I celebrate both with gratefulness, happiness, love, peace, and joy
I always decorate for Christmas early cause it's a pain to hang lights in the freezing cold weather. In November it's not so cold yet and makes it easier to do all the Christmas decorating.

For some reason thanks giving was always important to my family. I think it was mostly because of our connection to Native American roots more than anything else.
Not sure why. I guess it's because people want to do more Christmas shopping than for Thanksgiving maybe?
Because people are assholes with no respect for the turkey.
I'm preparing for Thanksgiving. Marketers don't make much off Thanksgiving so don't invest much into it, but make a lot at Christmas so start as soon as possible.
Well its not like the entire world is trying to survive a pandemic. That could be the reason and a damn good one.
Hopefully they are. People shouldn't celebrate mass murder of natives anyway.
You sure that's true?

Cause Thanksgiving is just an American thing. Nobody else in the entire world even thinks about it.
Thanksgiving is literally just dinner with more family members than usual and a time for mattress places to put on sales. Boring
Because nowadays people don't seem to know how to be grateful.
I heard that the Covid Charlie Brown Thanksgiving special was cancelled because of Corona virus
