What should be the punishment if someone throws a baby in a dumpster?

What do you think should be the punishment if someone does this:

If they didn't want the baby, they could've given the baby up in churches, hospital or at police stations, NOT in the garbage.

They should be charged with as many counts that will keep them in jail for as long as possiblechild abuse, child neglect, child abandonment, recklessly endangering the life of a child, etc... And if the baby dies before being discovered, murder... It's bad enough that people seem to treat people/relationships as disposable these days, but how could anyone be so callous as to throw away a precious baby. There were so many other safer options that person could of chose.

Indeed. The person could've gotten to a police station, a clinic or even a church and explain that they're giving up the baby.

Exactly.. Or a hospital... And some states have the Safe Haven laws that protect the parent if you take the child to a safe place

First it's important to know the age of the mother. If she's a young teen or preteen, then WTF. Then it's important to determine if the baby was born alive (this kid was). 'Cause if baby was stillborn then WTF. For most other cases, the birth person (I do not honor them with the term Mother) is an addict, is cognitively challenged or a dumb ass who should serve some time in prison.

People have brains to use. If they don't want kids they must take responsible actions before it's too late. Giving birth to a child and throwing into a dumpster? That's actually murder, because if nobody finds the baby then he/she is going to die. I think such people must be given the death sentence or something very intense.

A punishment where people are prohibited from having responsibility for them and for others. I don´t know if it has to be prison I´d rather say a closed communion of women that all have committed a similar crime.
Because it´s easier to help women learn from the mistake and handle the situation better the next time. Maybe it could be a good idea to make them go to a community worker or couch doctor for a certain time to help them handle life better.

I believe a punishment should fit the crime. Therefore in this case I would sentence the person to the trash compactor.

The sad part in life is there are people that can't have kids (that always wanted a child) and would happily raise that baby as theirs... doing a way better job than those so called birth parents.

I would be in that category. I am 61 and never able to have a child. It is my one great regret in life and I'd sacrifice body parts to be a Dad so I take this sort of crime very personal.

I say, definitely 10 years for attempted murder with depraved indifference to human life. If the baby dies of exposure and not found in time, then 25 years for murder with depraved indifference to human life.

Even in the (fortunately rare) situations where there is no safe alternative of last resort, throwing in the dumpster is deliberate and evil. I think severe penalties like we already have. However, I am not someone to advocate torturing anyone.
