I’m stoked about a goal I scored at public hockey today, and it feels like kind of a breakthrough moment. I’m too timid about contact with others because I’m usually bigger than the majority my opponents, and you’re just not supposed to be throwing checks and playing too rough, everyone is just out dicking around. But I think I take that too far in trying not to be an asshole, and then I just pull up when someone gets in my way to defend me, and I lose the puck. It’s frustrating. So on this goal I kinda said “fuck it”, and I wasn’t reckless (even less so upon video review vs my first-person, real-time view of it), I just didn’t shy away. I took on some contact (pretty light, but I’m still new, so it was enough to make me internally feel unsteady and bothered), and just battled through it like my instincts tell me to, and I was able to score a pretty sick goal off of the crossbar, which is the hardest way to score (we have to hit the posts of the goal when there’s no goalie, shots into the net that don’t hit any pipe don’t count). And being able to see it on the rink camera, I don’t feel bad about it, the smaller guys were just fine, it’s not like I’m 250 lbs lmfao, I’m just taller than them. So I’ll do it again, and I think I’m taking another step towards becoming a functional hockey player👍👍 That’s me in all navy blue. I really wish this was slow-mo. It’s not. We just suck at hockey lmfao.
